Interview with RAVYN WO7F

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: There is a song on my first album, that has my daughter on it, it is probably one of the more special records that I have ever done. My role was artist/vocalist, writer and producer.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am currently working on scoring and my next studio release.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No, I just joined.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: It always depends on what you are trying to do. I do believe there is a time and place for everything. It's all about the experience.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My only promise is to be devastatingly uniquely me in everything that I do.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being able to create transcendent sonic experiences.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: People most commonly ask me what my fee is for a feature.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I would say timing and predictability of "success".

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Will the project(s) be used commercially and how do they feel about cultivating a continuous relationship?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Go with the person that is going to give what it is suppose to give.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Solar powered generator, iMac, SLATE ML-1,UAD Apollo and a FANTOM 6.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My career path is and will most likely always be expression though music and I have been doing this for over 15 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: If you merged Frank Ocean and Jay Z...I appreciate Bryson Tiller as a predecessor...

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Adele, because she has such a dynamic writing style and voice, that I feel like the way I write would marry so well with how she writes and delivers music. Janelle Monae, because she's my kind of different. She believes in letting the music do what it does. I don't believe that she worries herself with always being technically correct.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: There are 100 different ways that you can take to get to a destination, the one that you choose should be based on you and how light you plan on packing.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: There isn't a usual...I don't really have a type of music, I just work on whatever feels good. This is outside of my clients. Tuesday I could be watching a Bollywood movie, looking to incorporate their colors into my visuals as I am always inspired by different artistic approaches and cultures. I pride myself in being well versed and having an eclectic musical palate.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is being a human first. I think that anything that deals with love/art is based in humanity. I think my ability to create relatable and catchy art is a strong suit of mine.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring a unique but diverse and relatable approach to genre-bending artistry. I definitely like to step out of my own comfort zone. I call it "getting out of my own way".

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical process is to review the job, go over the parameters to make sure that it's something I am able to provide and then I go through the process of finalizing the booking, then I am immediately focused on creating an experience to completion. That is what it is about for me.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a small but professional studio set up that I carefully and thoughtfully curated to create quality projects/productions.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I think that Prince is the Blueprint for artists like myself, who want to write/produce their own material who want to impact the world. I also think that Frank Ocean, Jhene Aiko, Andre 300 and J. Cole are for people who inspire me to tell the stories of those around me and have fun doing it.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Full songs, hooks, YouTube channel intro songs, features, produce full tracks and I score for film+tv/sync projects.
