I’ve studied music production and mixing in Innsbruck and completed an internship at Little Big Beat Studios in Liechtenstein. Playing the bass i specialize in rock punk and pop-punk, but I am also experienced in pop and hip-hop. Interview with Tobias Vigl

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am very pround of the album i recorded with my band Heating Cellar where I wrote songs, produced them and recorded the bass.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on a bigger portfolio and I'm looking for to get to know more people through music and to help them on their songs.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: The creative freedom and that I am able to elevate the clients songs.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: I ask them what they want in therir song (What energy for the bass or if they want athmospheres and Pads or a catchy lead line for the keys)

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Explain straight away what you are looking for in the musician, so you are guaranteed to get waht you want faster without many revisions and misunderstandings.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I am playing the bass for 6 years and played in several bands, writing many songs. with the keyboard i started ten years ago in school, where i took piano lessons for 6 years, also playing in bands, writing and recording songs.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: I would describe it as an energetic approach but not overdo anything. I focus more on simplicity and groove that sits well with the song, rather then play overly complicated things where they are not neccesary.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I usually work on punk-rock and pop-rock.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My ability to comprehend what a song might be missing and translating my ideas onto my instruments.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: im bringing groovy basslines that give a strong fundament to the song and athmospheric layers or leads that cut through on the keys.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: I am listening to the song i recieve and take notes, what I think is missing. If I am recording bass I am looking for the energy of the bassline I am going to record: Do I want it to be simple or more groovy. If the client tells me in what direction he wants the song to go, I'm taking that as a base and find waht I am going to record that suits his description. For keys, I am listening if the songs need a keyboard/synth lead or melody or if I am going to record layers to give it some depth or athmosphere.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: I most commonly record bass and keys on my clients songs.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: For the bass I am inspred by bassists like Joe Dart, Mikey Way and Leland Sklar. For the Keyboard I am taking inspiration from Jon Lord, Steve Porcaro and Stevie Wonder.
