Interview with DEEPBLUE

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Music for myself, mostly.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Digital. Don't get me wrong, I love Analog stuff but nowadays on modern music you can do pretty much everything purely in the box.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: To deliver the highest quality possible, even if I have to work overtime.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: The freedom.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: "Can you make a track that sounds like X"? "Yes."

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: "Making music is just pushing buttons".

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What exactly would you like to get? Send me three references for the track. And finally... what's your budget?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Don't give up if things don't start happening right away - this field takes time and patience. But persistence is key.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: M1 Mac, Audio Interface, HD600 headphones, pair of EVE monitors and a Mic and I'm good.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I started in 2007 as a DJ, got into production in 2008. In 2010 I released on Portugal's biggest label and everything started happening from there. Collaborations with big artists like DJ Chuckie and Tara McDonald, releases on Warner Bros Records, and many more. Also, played live on some major festivals in the country.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Feel-good House music.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: deadmau5, because he's a musical genius.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Be original but don't be self-critical while being creative.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Electronic, EDM, House, Pop, Techno, Tech House, Bass House.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Organization. My projects look really clean (thank you, OCD!)

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: Emotion. I always try to make people feel a certain way with my sound.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I usually start with melodies because they come naturally to my mind. Then I start working on the sound design.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I do everything "in the box". My gear is a MOTU audio interface, a pair of 3-way EVE Audio SC3070 studio monitors, a pair of Neumann KH120a studio monitors, several controllers and a few pairs of headphones (mostly Sennheiser HD600, DT770 Pros and ATH-M50x)

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Joel Zimmerman aka deadmau5

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
