I take a creative approach to mixing your songs, experimenting to get the most out of the track and carefully utilising unexpected elements to really elevate your music. I also offer podcast editing and mixing, and options for high-quality podcast recording.

I can help you discover a distinctive sound to your recorded music by sprinkling some interesting flavours into it. Who says that vanilla and paprika don’t mix? Or that you shouldn’t spread Marmite on your scone? (Hmm.. maybe scratch that last one!)
I take the time to get to know you, your personality, and what you want to say to the world with your sound. Ideally the production process itself will in person and not via Zoom, however is negotiable. A mix and master usually takes 3-4 days, depending on how many audio files there are. I am open to multiple revisions of course.

PODCASTS
I also offer podcast editing, mixing and mastering services.
I can clean up the audio and remove any unwanted sound as well as editing out pauses, mistakes, retakes, etc. Finally, I will mix and master the episode to a professional streaming level. I will also deliver your show notes in a PDF format for you.

Interview with Scott Rowe (Poykin)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I had been a professional drummer for 10 years and was blessed enough to work with some phenomenal artists over those years including Kelvin Jones, Gabriella Cilmi and HEATH among many others. Due to wrist complications I ended up turning to production and I wouldn’t have it any other way, I am coming up to six years as a producer. I’m 14 years deep into being a professional musician.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My broad tastes in music allow me to be malleable with genres. I feel as though i am able to adapt to whoever i am work with little effort.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Ah there are too many! I’d love to shadow Eric Valentine for the duration of a record being made. My biggest influence though is Bon Iver, so it would have to be them!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Get it right at source, never think that fixing problems in the mix is a the best solution. A mixing engineer will love you if you deliver high quality audio.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly alt-pop artists at the moment. I’m producing an artist called Tinkr and an artist called Roxi Sound. I am currently working on some hip hop tracks and pop rock tracks that I am both producing and mixing.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My vision for a song is 100% percent my strongest skill. My tastes in music are broad enough to identify a personality of a song and guide it in the right direction.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Any sound has value, and context is everything when it comes to production and music making. As a drummer I am always trying to find new ways to approach this element on each track that i produce or mix. Drums are as important as vocals. The heart beat and the storytelling must be unified.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I really enjoy working with Tinkr, this has been an ongoing relationship that has allowed me to understand her and an artist. Working with Leonard Wellington on their debut album was also absolutely bliss.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Working with 3 really interesting artists at the moment. One in Brighton (hip hop), one in Dubai (alt-folk) and one in Bristol (folk, reggae and hip hop).
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m fairly new to SoundBetter, but i’m a big fan of collaboration and networking so the better acquainted I become with the community the easier this question will be to answer.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Ouch. Analog for tracking and recording purposes because I am big fan of committing to sounds on the way in, in most circumstances analog is better for that. Digital for mixing because it’s just easier for recalls/revisions and more cost efficient.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will help them tell their story in the best way possible.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I get to work with a variety artists and styles. Each one of them being at a different stage of their career, makes each job unique and allows me to hone different skills.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Do i have to play to a click?” My answer is always the same… What’s your budget? Haha.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That the producer is completely in charge. I’m here as a solid guide to help you along your journey - think of me as your sonic mouthpiece. I’m here to translate your music for an audience.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you love most about music? Who influences you most, and are they always the sources of your inspiration? What would be your Top 5 desert island albums? Do you like coffee?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: There is no such thing as too many questions. I am here to help you in every way I can.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Teenage Engineering’s OP-1 and OP-Z, My iPad, Acoustic Guitar, a LEWITT 1040 mic. (Providing this island has all the pre-amps, speakers and computers needed of course)
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Pre-Production sessions are a must. I am usually playing most parts on the recordings I make, so it’s useful to get the core of the song in really great shape so the recording phase is seamless.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work mostly from home and in-the-box but have access to some beautiful studios for tracking here in Brighton. I so often work remotely so having a mobile set up is important to me. The cost goes up of course if the client wants the studio experience.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Bon Iver and Chris Messina, Eric Valentine, Novo Amor, Phoebe Bridgers, FINNEAS, Jack Antonoff, Andrew Scheps, Tchad Blake, Carter McLean.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: What I do is offer my artists an objective ear on their project. Is the song in good enough shape to be recorded? What do you want your song to sound like, and who are your influences? These are the first questions I ask. If they are unsure, it is my job to inspire them to be able to answer these confidently.
