Hello! I'm Lara, one of the small 2.6% of female music producers in the industry. I was mentored by Grammy-Award winner Brent Paschke who has worked with Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, Beck, Britney Spears, and more. In my first year alone as a vocal producer I produced over 120 tracks, and I'm here to help yours sound amazing.
Here's how I can help:
• Vocal Tuning
• Vocal Timing
• Vocal Cleaning
• Harmony Composition or Performance
• Vocal Comping
• Vocal Performance
• Producing
I love working on pop, singer-songwriter, musical theatre, indie, soul, jazz, classical, and contemporary classical vocals. I have a background in musical theatre and am an independent pop artist myself.
I tune vocals so that they sound natural using Melodyne, and produce with a variety of plug-ins.
I've worked on vocal production for several full-scale musical recordings (Les Miserables, In the Heights, The Last Five Years, Bare: A Pop Opera) and remote projects.
I have a background in teaching, so I'm very passionate about working with beginners. I'm especially passionate about working with women and members of the LGBTQ+ community, and working with artists with all kinds of budgets. I also am an active TikTok creator and love helping other creators with parody songs/fun projects.
I'm happy to provide notes on demos, comps, recording quality, and more. With 12+ years of experience in vocal performance, I can also provide vocals of my own.
I want to share my knowledge and show you that anyone can follow their dreams and pursue music!

She’s a really talented vocal producer. So patient, kind and hard working overall great job!!!! She is very detail oriented and exceeded expectations! Thank you!!
Incredibly patient and kind throughout the production process! I am a disabled artist, so we had to work around an unpredictable schedule. Lära handled it with such grace and compassion. This was also my first time working remotely with a producer, and she was very helpful in knowing what steps needed to be taken and when. She has a great ear for production and knows her stuff!
Interview with Lara Lafferty
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: One of my favorite songs I've ever written! To be released this Spring, I'll Stay is in the works. It's a haunting, emotional ballad that builds and builds and builds. I'm so excited.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I think the biggest misconception about music production is how involved it is and how long it takes. Many music producers start by underselling their services, as working on just one track on a single song can take days. It's a time consuming process, but it's always worth it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Singer-songwriters, pop, soul, musical theatre, and more. I love songs that move me with natural sounding vocals and stunning lyrics.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is absolutely my musical ear and attention to detail. I have perfect pitch and can pick out harmonies instantly, hear extremely minute pitch differences, and won't complete work on a project until it is perfect.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home studio located in Burbank, CA. I've installed a recording booth with soundproofing, and my main mic is a Roswell Pro Audio Colares. I use a Hammer 88 piano keyboard for music production, KALI Audio monitors, a Universal Audio Thunderbolt Interface, MacBook Pro with Logic Pro X, and several plug-ins and virtual instruments from esteemed companies like iZotope, Melodyne, Spitfire, and more.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm hugely inspired by bedroom producers, and those who have taught themselves to produce. Musicians like FINNEAS who received Grammy accolades from his bedroom, and artists that have gone on to sell out major tours like AJR and started on SoundCloud. Huge inspirations!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I frequently produce vocals for musical theatre projects, and tweak recordings of live singers. I also get hired to sing as a soprano frequently.
