Interview with Sam Featherstone
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: It can range from a straightforward mix, up to full production. Often when I'm mixing I end up adding an additional production element that my clients love and are very appreciative that I have the skill to do that.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Getting a clear, concise brief from clients is incredibly important. From there I'll listen to their references, discuss the sound they're looking to achieve and dive in. I like to make sure that the first thing I send to a client is a mix I'm very happy with, that way there aren't any caveats. A couple of rounds of mix revisions and we're usually there!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work between my own small studio and bigger recording studios depending on the requirements of the project. I like the flexibility of working 'in the box' so I have a great collection of plugins and tools at my disposal. Aside from that I believe that good, accurate monitoring and great convertors is very important.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I grew up listening to a lot of American pop-rock so love the work of producers like Neal Avron, Jerry Finn and Mark Trombino.

84 Million: The number of times songs from the SIX: The Musical studio album were streamed in 2019! The show opened this week at Sydney Opera House, opens on Broadway next month and has been extended in the West End until 2021.
Nuts to think that something I engineered, produced and mixed (with plenty of help from the show’s writers and team) is being listened to on average 400,000 times a day.
