Interview with Cody Cost

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: Prepping the session for mix by implementing my routing, gain staging and session template that has a decade of experience behind it. Then I clean up and edit any audio files that need it. I listen to Rough Mix or References to get in the head space of the client and to help myself understand how I could get the song to the client's final vision. Then I listen to the song through the session and I typically start working with the drums or vocals first. I usually only "mix" for about twenty minutes at a time before taking an ear break. This always helps keep my perspective more accurate to a decided final vision without tricking myself through ear fatigue

  3. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  4. A: Running a maxed out Mac mini with an Avid Carbon Interface. Two Neve Preamps and one LA2A. I almost every popular plugin but rely mainly on Acustica plugins, Fabfilter and UAD.

  5. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  6. A: Mixing and Mastering.
