Interview with Frank
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog is king with me. I really appreciate analog/digital hybrid pieces like a Lexicon 224 or a Waves L2 hardware limiter. I also think having a DAW as a place holder for audio is taken for granted too much and is an amazing advancement in production.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Hearing a mix come together.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How to prepare audio stems for a song or project to send for mixing. There are plenty of youtube tutuorials explaining how export properly. You just have to search your particular daw.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I buy gear just to have gear. I'd really rather not buy gear financially, but I always chase the best sound.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I've worked on different types, Rock, Hiphop, Metal, Dance club
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Listening and patience to get the right sound.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: 3D depth, clarity, punch and a feeling of solidness about the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I use Reaper daw, i process all audio with analog outboard gear. Compression, Eq, De-essing, gating, Reverb, Fx
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and mastering
