Interview with brandontoddwright
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Just put out a Christmas EP called Long Expected Jesus that I wrote and produced.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Recording lead vocals on three custom song request.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Spence Peppard
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Cause it's easier.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll be nice, I'll work hard, and I'll tell everybody about your song when it comes out!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Hearing so many unique, creative musicians.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: I often get asked to improve/fix melodies by clients. I love doing that - just small changes in phrasing or attack to make the song go to that next level.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Probably that anybody can do it. I work very hard to create things that will stand the test of time.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What sort of vibe/energy do you want the song to have?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I want your song to be BEAUTIFUL!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Acoustic guitar, pen and paper
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been a singer, songwriter and worship leader for 30 years. Recording artist for 15.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Clear, tenor vocal perfect for love songs and ballads.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: "Do another take"
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: CCM, worship, Gospel, country and blues
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Probably my encouragement. I love working with other musicians and I am always impressed with how creative and unique people can be.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I think I have a very pure and simple vocal tone. I think I also do a good job of making melodies come awake by working the phrasing to flow. I like to think lead vocals should feel like a violin solo - clear and sweeping.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When I'm getting ready to track, I try and listen to a demo mix of the song multiple times during the day. Not only does this help me get the melody in my head, but also gets me comfortable with the overall flow of the song. This helps me sing in a way that follows the dynamic art of where the music is going.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Logic Pro with a good vocal mic...pretty simple!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Charlie Starr, John Mayer, Steven Curtis Chapman
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my work is for independent songwriters looking to release music that's performed with quality and precision. I
