Helping Pop & Indie Artists create and release songs with Hit Potential
Pascal Oorts is a successful Pop Music Producer, Mixing Engineer, Songwriter and Ableton Certified Trainer. Pascal runs a music production studio, called Tapelab in Antwerp, Belgium. He has a strong pop sensibility and passion for helping artists craft signature songs that make an impact.
With his background as the synth wizard for Belgian band Mintzkov, he is an expert in multiple aspects of the industry. As a professional songwriter, mixing engineer and producer, he knows what it takes for a song to cut through the noise in a highly saturated music landscape.
Pascal has an impressive list of releases with a variety of international artists including Chackie Jam (Belgium), Monelise (UK), and Kumi Koda (Japan). These releases not only reflect his infectious songwriting and production approach, but are also commercially successful.
Between them, these artists have amassed millions of Spotify streams and YouTube views, as well as winning radio contests. We can safely say that Pascal’s goal is to help artists succeed and elevate their career. To enable this, he has developed his own signature formula for crafting a hit song.
In addition, Oorts is now taking enrolments for his one-of-a-kind Ableton Live and Pop Music production courses.

Great working with Pascal.
Together we took the concept of my song and turned it into a proper demo. He helped me cut out the parts that were lacking and replace them with better fitting melodies. It took the song to the next level. I will definitely work with him again in the future. - check_circleVerified

Pascal did a fantastic job up-levelling an existing production that I sent him to work on. He took the song to a whole other level and was able to grasp my instructions and inspiration for the song perfectly. He was very easy to work with and is clearly a top notch professional.
I can’t thank Pascal Oorts enough for all his work in 2022. We release three singles together and spent many hours together in the studio. He’s an absolute wizard at the desk and wastes no time at all. I felt I could trust him very early on to help me reach my vision of the style and sound sonically.
I also must add that he was very generous to me many times in regards to meeting deadlines and other issues that artist for music artists. Thanks man!
Interview with Pascal Oorts - Tapelab
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “I want to make a single/EP/album. Can you help me?” Yes! “I’d like to upgrade my sound, how can I accomplish this?” I’ll help! “Is everything included?” Yes! “The single is done. What can I do from here?” I can refer you to my highly qualified music promotion team.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That you just push a couple of buttons, and a song magically comes to life! 🙂
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s your ultimate goal? What is your dream sound? Where do you see yourself in 3 years as an artist?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would take my computer with Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, a speaker set, a good microphone, and a keyboard.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as melodic, modern, energetic, danceable and groovy!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with Max Martin, Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons or Ed Sheeran. They are all fantastic masters of their craft and have an infectious sound that I’d love to add something extra to.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t mix while your volume is turned up too high. Instead, try mixing on a super low volume level. You’ll hear more details in the mix.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on pop, electronic, alternative or indie music, although I am always open to different genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say that my strongest skills are in vocal production, backing track creation and mixing. I’m also great at giving laser focused guidance and feedback to songwriters during songwriting sessions. We’ve often had pretty miraculous results when I simply suggested that they make their chorus idea into a verse and try writing something new for the chorus. Similarly, I can help artists piece their drafts together into what sounds like a solid song structure. It really helps to have that objective source of feedback in a room full of creatives!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a complete studio with two control rooms. It is well equipped for recording, mixing, mastering and songwriting sessions - both in-person and online. Ableton Live and Logic Pro X are my go-to DAWs. I’m also an Ableton Certified Trainer.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by Max Martin and Mark Ronson. I have studied both producers and their signature approaches.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Tapelab is the one-stop shop for all of my clients’ recording, production and artist development needs. I often help my artists take a demo idea and transform it into a professional production. While working with me, artists develop their sound and find new directions for their music. I also offer music promotion advice to grow your career. I’m available for both short-term (single song or mix) and long-term (EP, album) projects. I offer the following services: songwriting, lyric writing, backing track creation and production, arrangements, vocal production, recording, mixing and mastering; as well as optional music promotion advice and strategies. It’s a full 360° concept, and I love to see the artists I work with succeed on all levels.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: If I had to pick just one highlight, I would go for Chackie Jam’s radio contest win with “Hachi”. “Hachi” was a special song for me on both personal and career levels. It was the first song I ever produced for another artist after switching career paths from artist to producer in 2016. My new focus became to add value to other artists’ music. And “Hachi” was the first result of this new direction. The first year after the release, nothing happened except for a few Spotify streams and a blog post. But in 2018, the song won the biggest Belgian national radio contest ‘De Nieuwe Lichting’. The band sky-rocketed into media attention. They signed a record/publishing deal and gained thousands of streams. And they played an abundance of gigs at national festivals and venues. I am beyond grateful to be part of “Hachi”.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m working on a new art-pop Monelise single; a modern acoustic pop song for Wayne Matthews; a new indie-pop single; and all while mixing an indie rock EP.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I recommend Maria Kheyfets for beautiful lyrics and top-notch artist promotion strategy. Her profile is Maria K.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It really doesn’t matter as long as it sounds good! There is one advantage of analog - it’s more hands-on. But that still doesn’t mean I prefer it. Gear is here to serve musical ideas, not the other way around.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I can promise that my clients will get a production that sounds like them, and not “me”. I am committed to help them achieve their dream sound and give them the tools to grow their fanbase, get more streams and play more shows. Plus, the song you make with me will be radio-friendly and professional-sounding.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the freedom and creativity provided by my awesome job. It never really feels like going to “work”, because I love it so much. Each project is a new challenge, and no two days are alike. I am truly passionate about transforming people’s ideas into finished musical products, as well as seeing them progress from A to B. I really enjoy watching artists grow with their new music, getting more streams, new fans and bigger opportunities. I also love to geek out on gear and software!
