Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Promoting and marketing our JOURNEY album https://youngwess.com/album/1653225/journey
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: We created a commercial for FUBU x C21. I am proud of that project because of the remarkable effort in teamwork that was put forth to create the final product. I helped to produce the players of the production as well as created the shot list. I directed the production from beginning to end as the Director.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not sure yet. I'm only just getting here and have not had time to surf around.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital all the way if I'm looking to be able to send content effortlessly over the web, but Analog other than that because I want to experience the highly level of quality possible.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: We promise to work hard to deliver your content in a timely manner. Further more we promise to work equally as hard to deliver your final project the way you want it.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Autonomy, financial freedom, and working with people who love what they do.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long is this going to take? I give them different responses based on the scope of the job.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about what we do is that it doesn't cost us anything (time, finances, hard work). This is not magic and will not just appear out of thin air. It takes time, it takes skill, and sometime it takes financial backing.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are you looking to accomplish? What is the time frame you need this in? What is your budget?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be as clear and concise as possible, be as creative as possible but realistic in relationship to your budget, and relax we got you.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, interface, microphone, 4k drone with detaching gimbal and camera, 10T - 20T Hard Drive. This would have to include all the cables needed to facilitate proper connectivity for recordings.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been doing music since I was about 9yrs of age. I always wanted to be an artist and executive of my own business, so this is my career path. I just never thought it would bbe so hard or so much work to break into the mainstream.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is eclectic, expansive, and transformative.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with most artists who are humble and serious about their craft, but ultimately I would like to work with other mix engineers who may know more than myself in order to embark on some mixing styles that have never been tried before.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Before recording anything you should level set/ gain stage. This will help you in a major way when it's time to mix and master.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: We usually work on hip hop, pop, and r&b music
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I think mixing and mastering
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: We bring over 15yrs of experience to songs whether it's writing, tracking and arranging, or mixing and mastering. We know how to bring songs to live by enhancing what sounds good and minimizing what does not.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Our typical work process includes setting up the session and laying down the foundation after speaking to the client to know what they actually want. After the foundation is laid we then discuss possibilities on how it should and will sound once completed.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Based out of two different studio setups, one is mostly for pre-production and the other for mixing and mastering. A third optional setup is available in mobile form; this studio comes to you.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by the type of music professional who is able to create an idea and follow it through to completion.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Some of the most common work we do for our clients include tracking and arranging, editing, mixing and mastering. We also do some aesthetic work in the form of flyers and logos when requested.
