Ryan's bold, inventive mixing and unique production style make him a great choice for any artist that is looking to do something out of the ordinary.

Hi there! My name is Ryan Mannebach and I have been providing artists with amazing mixes and masters for 8 years now. I have been writing and recording session guitar, bass, and drum parts for 16 years.

My goal as your engineer, producer, or session musician is to understand exactly where you are coming from with a given piece of music, and bring that vision to life. I work in many genres but specialize particularly in Rock, Hip-Hop, RnB, Funk, and Psychedelic music!

Interview with Ryan Mannebach

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Definitely both.

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: That I only shred rock and funk guitar. I pride myself on my mixing and mastering abilities. I also love producing hip-hop beats (and other instrumentals). I also love songwriting, and co-songwriting. It is one of my favorite things.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: What is the overall vision of your project? What is your goal with this body of work? How important is the live performance of your music compared to a more meticulously layered approach? How important is experimentation / improvisation to you with this project? What is your timeline for release?

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Don't be afraid to over explain.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: Guitarist-->Guitar Teacher--->Bandleader------->Studio Musician----->Studio Engineer------> Now, all of them.

  11. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  12. A: My new solo album and a variety of client projects.

  13. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  14. A: Yes.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: I will use every tool I have, my expertise and experience to help you create an original sounding product that stands out from the crowd.

  17. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  18. A: Making someone go crazy over how good their mix sounds.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: 3 electrical generators, a giant Marshall full stack, and a Fender Telecaster. That way if I saw a rescue boat in the distance........ I COULD TURN UP TO 11!!!

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Funky, emotional, bluesy, intentional.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Kendrick Lamar because I have over 100 beats he could crush on.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Don't squeeze the life out of a mix. Be subtle when you can.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: Dramatic, bold mixes & exciting instrumental session work on guitar, bass, and drums.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: It varies widely. There is no one-size-fits-all strategy to making a great piece of recorded art. I do whatever needs to be done, and I trust my musical instincts.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: I have a home studio setup with very high quality preamps, microphones, and a full arsenal of guitars, drums, basses, keyboards, midi controllers, and synthesizers.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, eevee, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Kendrick Lamar, Sounwave, Omar Rodríguez López, Haitus Kaiyote, and Eddie Kramer to name a few.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: The kind of work I do varies by client, but generally speaking I help my clients bring their sonic vision to life by providing an outside perspective, ear, and contributing my musical, mixing, and production talents.
