Leandro Reis on SoundBetter

Relatively new to the scene trying to put my mark in the industry. Looking to network with great artists and build my credits up. You've got to start somewhere! So, let's turn your vision into reality!

Hi! I'm Leandro Reis from Liontrip Audio, a music production service I started after graduating with a BA(Hons) in Music Production from BIMM Manchester in 2019.

I want to use my 7 years worth of skills, expertise and knowledge to help people with a variety of different audio services without breaking the bank! These services include beat making, mixing, mastering and audio editing/repair.

Over the last 8 months, I had the opportunity to make my start into the industry by working alongside the UK production company REDCAT Creative Ltd. They focus on creating sync music for clients such as Sky, BBC, ITV and Channel 5 for their programmes/ads. During my time here I worked on 5 different albums totalling to 48 songs. The genres of these albums were R&B, Drill, Trap, Reggaeton and Lo-Fi and you can find them on my SoundCloud under LionTrip Audio.

I may not have the credentials that a lot of professionals have on here but I know for sure that I can provide industry standard quality to your projects. I am also more than happy to work at a cheaper starting rate in order to build up my clientele.

I am a perfectionist and want my unique style to be heard and I will not stop until you are happy with the outcome of what I provide. I am driven and ready to take on any challenge you have to throw at me!

Tell me about your project and how I can help, through the 'Contact' button above.

Interview with Leandro Reis

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am currently working on another production music project for REDCAT Creative Ltd for use on UK TV next year.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I trained with analog equipment in my degree but due to starting out and financial difficulties I haven't been able to build my own analog rig.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I will not stop until you are satisfied with what I deliver. The most important thing for me is to increase my credibility and the last thing I want for you to feel like you're not getting your money's worth.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I am doing what I feel like is my purpose. Nothing else fills that void of not feeling fulfilled like when I'm making music. Seeing the reaction of people when they hear sounds and tracks I've made brings me a level of joy and content that nothing else does.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: Because I haven't got the credentials like others, people usually feel that I cannot deliver professional quality. Having a degree in Music Production and only recently creating profitable music within the last 6 months means that it is harder for me to stand out in this competitive market. However, I'm always striving for perfection in everything I make and always plan to make the next track sound better than the last. Just give me a chance to prove it to you!

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What is your vision? What is your time range? Do you have a reference track? What vibe are you looking for? Are you a singer/rapper?

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Contact a provider before making any sort of release plan. This way you will not be left disappointed and you know your song will be released on your desired date.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: Very soulful with hints of Latin flair.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I would love to work with Kendrick Lamar to see his creative process and how he turns a beat into a story of various emotions. To Pimp a Butterfly was what got me really interested in Hip Hop after coming from a metal/rock background. He got me into those unique jazzy style beats which made me look into even more artists and eventually making me really interested in Neo Soul and its crossover with Rap.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Regularly switch between mono and stereo when mixing, because if you can all hear all your elements clearly in mono they will translate well into stereo. Also, you don't want your song to sound underwhelming when played in a mono format.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: I work on a variety of modern contemporary genres such as Neo Soul, R&B, Hip hop, Trap, Drill and Reggaeton. They're all interlinked as well as something I write can be taken in any of those directions.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: I'd say creating catchy melodies. It's probably one of the most important things for a song to have in order for it to be remembered by listeners. But, I also love creating groovy bass lines just to see people's heads bop, which is the best sign to know that your track is hitting right.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I try to bring my influences to a track especially from my guitar playing. I have quite a mixed style with aspects of Neo Soul mixed with Latin Rock and Ambient Progressive Metal. I know it can be seen as quite opposite styles but I also know when to use a certain sound for a track and will never superimpose a certain way that I play for the sake of it. I'm always trying to play what I feel like the song is needing, and that comes with not overplaying. Simplicity for me is key. But making simplicity sound exciting is what I try to achieve and I find that it can be a real skill.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: It depends if I'm either making a beat or just mixing a track. If I'm creating, I usually either start with a melody or chord progression that I write on guitar or keys, I then add drums followed by the bass. Sometimes if I find a great sample or drum loop I'll start and build with bass, guitar, keys etc. So I'm quite versatile in that way. At the end of the day I'm trying to achieve a vibe that could be desirable to someone. When it comes to mixing the track I work off templates which I create myself to help me organise the track and make the process more streamlined. My main focus is to make sure all elements of the track are clear and not masking one another and I achieve this through additive and subtractive EQ. After this is where my creativity shines and I really begin to make a unique soundscape for the track by adding effects and automation. I finish each track off by mastering it using Izotope's Ozone 9 plugin, which ensures me that I am reaching industry standard quality and loudness.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: I have a fairly basic home studio set-up. It is currently fully digital, using mainly analog recreation plug-ins from Waves and mixing and mastering plug-ins from Izotope. I have Yamaha HS7 studio monitors and Sennheiser HD518 Open-back Headphones for precise monitoring. I own a Limited Edition PRS SE Custom 24 which I record through my Boss Katana-100W using either DI or my Rode NT2-A Condensor Microphone. I also own a 4-string Peavey Millennium Active pick up bass and a 6-String Dean Acoustic Guitar. I also have the ability of recording live drum using my Behringer XR18 Digital Mixer and AKG Drum Session 1 Microphones. Living in Manchester also means I have great studios nearby who have analog equipment if you are going for that sound.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: Tom Misch, Erykah Badu, Jordan Rakei, Alfa Mist, Kendrick Lamar, Carlos Santana,Tool, Rick Rubin

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: I create production music for synchronisation on TV and also provide mixing for rappers and singer-songwriters.
