Professional Transcriber

Dylan Erdei on SoundBetter

I’m a professional musician, guitarist, composer and transcriber. I've been playing since i was 10 years old and then I specialized during high school in Musical Production and I've studied at the most prestigious jazz career in Argentina (at the Conservatorio Superior Manuel de Falla) with many of the countrys most renowned musicians and teachers.

I can take whatever piece of music and turn it to sheet music. I’ve been transcribing song since I started studying music at 10 years old. In both high school and at the conservatory I’ve had many courses on ear training and have transcribed many solos, tunes and arrangements.

Interview with Dylan Erdei

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Don't do things to show off, listen to the music and do what it needs

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Jazz, folk, and rock are my main genres. But I have an ear for hip-hop, electronic and specially indie music too.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: Can't say for sure, but I would say composing, and then improvising.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I have many years of jazz training, so I have a knack for interpretation and improvisation. Adding to that a passion for folk and singer-songwriters music, and of course a lot of teenage years of classic and prog rock, so I tend to fuse all these worlds together when composing, improvising, and writing arrangements.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: For transcribing work I do it by ear, if I need to mark it or slow it down I use Transcribe, and then mostly Sibelius and Finale. For recording I mainly work with my Gibson 335 for electric and my Martin GPCPA5 for acoustic, and for effects and pedals I have a EHX Memory Man with hazarai; a Ibanez tube screamer; a tc electronics corona chorus and a BOSS D1 Distortion, aside from many plugins. I've got a Scatlett 18i8 audio interface and a AKG C3000 condenser microphone. If you'd like, I can record directly to the interface or run it thru my VOX Pathfinder 15 amp.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: Many folk, rock, and jazz artists mainly, but also musicians from other genres too. To think of a few: Elliott Smith, Paul McCartney, Jim Hall, Bob Dylan, Bill Frisell, Leonard Cohen, Mary Halvorson, Joni Mitchell, Aphex Twin, Björk, MF Doom, Pat Metheny, and the list goes on and on...

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I'm currently working the most with transcriptions. Whatever piece of music it may be. I also do guitar recordings, electrical and acoustical, and music and lyrics compositions.
