Interview with Pumpkin

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: Itโ€™s a well thought out studio with a very nice vocal booth, Mogami cables, KRK Rokit 5 speakers, Beyerdynamic headphones, a powerful laptop with tons of plug ins, all the bells and whistles besides analog gear at the moment.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: I receive projects, lay them out and organize them, find any flaws and fix them and then mix and master the project as the creator envisions it.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: Theyโ€™ll receive what they want how they wanted it.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love being able to be creative and work with like minded people. Thereโ€™s nothing more rewarding than creating something and watching others enjoy it.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I currently work as a driver and pre loader at UPS and my dream is to do this full time. Iโ€™ve been producing and mixing/mastering my own content + multitracks for almost a year now.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: Professionalism with ease of creativity and being on time.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: Mixing and mastering beats and songs.

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: Digital because itโ€™s fast, easy and you can take it anywhere.

  17. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  18. A: The most common question is how long a project will take. I reply with a honest estimation based on the amount of work I have in the order it came.

  19. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  20. A: Itโ€™s more simple than it looks.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: I like to ask artists who their inspirations are and what inspired the track theyโ€™re bringing to me. I want to know what direction and vibe they want to take it and what creative ideas they have plus what reference tracks they have.

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: My best advice to someone looking to hire a provider like me would be to know what youโ€™re looking for and what vibe you want. Itโ€™s best to find someone who fits your style that you can be transparent with.

  25. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  26. A: I have no big projects that I have ever worked on but I am looking forward to them in the future.

  27. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  28. A: My own projects.

  29. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  30. A: My laptop, Apollo UAD interface, DT 770 headphones, Neumann M49 V Mic, Native Keyboard.

  31. Q: How would you describe your style?

  32. A: Dark and gritty.

  33. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  34. A: $crim because he does everything himself and heโ€™s a inspiration to me.

  35. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  36. A: Use automation clips as much as you can.

  37. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  38. A: Hip-Hop

  39. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  40. A: Mixing

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
