Interview with Rare Jrdn
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Chris Brown because he hasn’t missed yet.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Make sure there is space for the performer. The more freedom they have the better.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on hip hop and r&b. I sometimes venture into pop and dance.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I think my strongest skill is being able to adapt. Not every artist sounds the same so being able to make a beat around the artist is important. Also, not every vocal can be mixed the same way. Understanding that is important.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As a producer, I not only bring the beats but only some song ideas I think fit the sound. It helps give the singer/songwriter some added direction. As a mix engineer, I provide the glue to make sure everything sounds good together.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually make the beats then send them to artist, or we link and have a listening session. After they write to them, they send stems, I mix everything, and then versions are sent out for critiques and approval.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Pharrell, Guru, The Alchemist, DJ Premier, Hit-Boy, No I.D
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mainly song production but I am looking to do more audio mixing.
