More than just a mixing engineer, I bring over 20 years experience in sound engineering, songwriting, and classical musical training to help make your song the best it can be.
Hi, my name is Melissa Cox, founder and chief engineer / producer at Mockingbird Music Studios in Tauranga, New Zealand. Originally from Delaware, USA, I moved to NZ in 2014. I've studied the craft of songwriting for decades, so I am keenly aware of what makes a song good: evocative hooks, compelling lyrics, and strong performances. I'm an award-winning and critically acclaimed songwriter with over a dozen albums, who has shared bills with Three Dog Night, Smash Mouth, Spin Doctors, Sister Hazel, and many others.
I am a classically trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist adept at playing rhythm acoustic and electric guitar, rhythm & lead mandolin, rhythm ukulele, Irish whistle, and piano / keyboard. If your song is in need of extra instrumentation or vocals, I can sort it for you. I also have access to some of New Zealand's best studio musicians, including violinists, pianists, drummers, bassists, and electric guitarists, if you are interested in hiring them for your project.
I am passionate about getting the right sound for your song. I studied sound engineering through Warren Huart's Produce Like a Pro Academy, and co-produced my own albums with Marc Moss of Target Studios, who engineered David Bromberg's 2007 GRAMMY-nominated album.
My expertise is in Acoustic, Folk, World, Celtic, Rock, Trip Hop, and similar genres.

Freddie BuijnI am a solo artist looking to release some original music soon. Mockingbird Music Studios is making that complex journey much easier to navigate. Not only do I get a high level of recording, mixing, producing and mastering; I also get much much more, such as mentoring, marketing advice and vocal coaching. www.mikeconlon.live
