Groove and song oriented pop/rock drummer, influenced by Dave Grohl, Chad Smith and John Bonham. I have a great vintage drum collection, a solid recording setup and many years of playing, touring and engineering experience.
I am a Dutch drummer, producer and audio engineer. I love honest, personal and powerful sounds. My playing is influenced by drummers like Dave Grohl, Chad Smith and John Bonham. I studied drums with René Creemers at the Rockacademie in Tilburg.
I started playing at age 11 in the local orchestra. After playing classical music for a couple of years, at age 14 I discovered rock music and left the orchestra to start my own band. I've been playing ever since; in rock bands, touring and recording national and international with bands like BluefisH, One in a Million, Cooper and Switch Bones.
I have been a sound engineer for more than 15 years and I'm specialized in recording drums. My broad collection of vintage drums (70's Ludwig, 70's Gretsch, 90's Tama, along with a broad selection of vintage Ludwig snares as well as a Tama Bell Brass reissue snare drum) helps me get the sounds I want. My recording gear & mic collection (UAD Apollo, Austrian Audio, C414 B-ULS) helps me capture the sounds the way I want. This can be clean & focused or dirty, just what the song and client needs.
I never let technique get in the way of the music. I use it when needed but I am most happy playing a simple beat to a beautiful song. Contact me!

Endorse Geert TeekensGeert asked to make a live recording for our 6-piece band Charley Cruz & The Souls. Why Geert? Because he is a very pleasant person to deal with. Very communicative and knowledgeable about technology and sound. Gives valuable musical instructions. This resulted in a beautiful recording that we can move forward with! Thanks Geert.
Geert did an absolutely amazing job recording the latest HERE TODAY record with us.
With a lot of time pressure and pre-fixed release date Geert managed to pull it trough with his communication and planning skills. With only 2 songs ready for recording at the start of the pre-production, we came out of the other end with 6 songs that sound the freshest of all the work we done.In the end we got a product we really love and this would have been unachievable without Geert!
Vocal recordings MagnaCult (genre: Metal).
Had the best experience in 25 years of recording vocals for our new album. Why? Geert is a fantastic communicator and has a sixth sense for what the client wants/needs. Even without having a background in metal music he pushed the bar to the highest level with his professional hard and soft skills.
Seb - vocalist MagnaCultGeert did a great job recording our single. Sounds fresh and lively and the drums played by Geert are straight as an arrow. He knows his stuff and got a lot of good ideas to make your song even better.
For my application assignment at HKU music and technology, I wanted live recorded drums on my funk track. I got accepted! The drum tracks are recorded so well, they just mix them self. Communication was easy and the delivery date fast.
I sent Geert an initial demo and after that, he handled the entire production for drums.
Both recording and playing is done professionally, I am simply satisfied. No phase issues or any other quirks like that, just bang on drum tracks to mix!For my upcoming album I asked Geert to provide more than half of the songs with drums. I had a pretty good idea of what it needed and what atmosphere I wanted the drumming in. But because I'm not a drummer, I missed the organic flow in my programmed tracks, which only a good drummer can bring. Geert's interpretation of the demo versions was perfect. He discussed his ideas about which bass drums and snares he had in mind for which song. Then he drummed up some ideas in his studio, took notes and a week later I had drums. In the end I had only 1 minimal adjustment.
For my vintage slightly heavy guitar arrangement I asked Geert to deliver Drums by remote recording. All was set and ready at Geert's side. Communication, transfering tracks, musical clear WAVs, helpfull dubb-tracks and not to forget: PUNCH!!!
The drums really sound great soundwise as well. Full range hifi and high quality recorded. Mixed slightly too brite to fit in with the vintage guitar; it was fixed by Geert in no time.
Understanding what's needed is easy for Geert since musicproduction and drums are part of his life for decades. Personal processing tips were on the spot as well.
As someone's wedding anniversary gift I was asked to record the songs I sang at their wedding. So I recorded vocals and guitar but I needed drums and a decent sounding mix. So I contacted Geert for both. He tuned in to the songs perfectly and delivered just what they needed. His drums really elevated the recordings. And his mix really sealed the deal. Confident that they would be well received I sent the recordings to the wedding couple and they were very excited. Thanks Geert for your friendly communication, tasteful drums and professional mix!
Interview with Geert Teekens
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: In 2019 my love for music, audio engineering and event management combined with years of on- and offstage experience naturally merged into my first album production. I produced the album ‘Losing my Mind’ by the Dutch band Scotch. With an in-depth and hands-on approach, we reworked their songs in an extensive pre production period of six months, recorded the whole band live in one take in the studio with Pieter Kloos as recording engineer. Pieter and I finished the mix and master together.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A train beat cowboy pop song with too many vocal harmonies stacked up. :D
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Matt Johnson is great!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It's both fine as long as you know what you're doing.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will get a great sound & feel in the tracks I record for you
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The unpredictability. You never know where the perfect part & sound are hiding. It's a pleasure to hunt these down every single time.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you record some more songs for me. Sure!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's easy ;)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: References: bands, drummers, albums, songs, moods.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have a clear vision of the song, the sound and the parts you are looking for. The more clear the client has it, the more I am able to create what you are looking for.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Vintage Ludwig drum kit w/ Zildjian Cymbals Gibson Les Paul Fender P Bass UAD Apollo Twin AKG C414 B-ULS
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Started playing at age 11 in the Dordrecht Philharmonic Orchestra. After playing classical music for a couple of years I discovered rock music and at age 14 I left the orchestra to start my own band. At age 16 I played my debut show as a stand-in drummer for Dutch punkrock band I Against I for a 3000 + crowd at MTV’s Beavis & Butthead do Veendam. In the following years I have played a lot of national and international stages with bands like BluefisH, One in a Million, Cooper and Switch Bones. Alongside playing drums I taught himself to play guitar and bass guitar and was always intrigued by the recording process. This started as a teenager with ping pong recording between two tape desks. When my bands made demo tapes, I recorded and mixed them. My love for sound brought me to work as a sound engineer in Paard (Den Haag) and Popcentrale (Dordrecht) as well as touring as a FOH tech for bands like Cooper, Sister Fister and The Hot Stewards. In 2005 I went on a European tour with Social Distortion, combining both FOH tech as drummer duties for support act Cooper. I studied drums with René Creemers at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, but also developed my cultural organisational skills by studying Social Work in Rotterdam. I have organised and managed music projects and productions for Popunie (Rotterdam), Popcentrale (Dordrecht) and numerous festivals in the south of Holland. In 2020 I took the next step and started my own recording studio. Hotboks Studio is a small one room studio, accommodated for recording drums and mixing. With this studio as home base I am available for music production and remote drum recording. Alongside playing and recording I am a drum instructor at music school ToBe Cultuurcentrum in Dordrecht, introducing young kids to my biggest love: music.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Musical, fat, and slightly behind the beat
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: St. Vincent. Because she never ceases to amaze me.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The Wurst mic with a little decapitator on it. Yummy!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock and pop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Sound design, behind the beat feel
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A sound and atmosphere that breathes the soul of the song. I propel the vocals and the overall vibe, never getting in the way of the message of the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Get to know the song first, not thinking about drums. Humming along in the car. When I feel the song, I automatically have a vision about the sound I want to achieve. Big boomy bass drum or a short Ringo kick with no front head? I create the sound that's in my head and record the parts that way.
