Hi! I´m Fabián Araya, saxophone and flute player form Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I´m living in Portugal and working as a full time session musican all over Europe.

Interview with Fabián Araya
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: In 2008 I started the Orquesta Metafísica, a psicodelic/tango/rock quartet. I composed the melodies and arrangments. We had our succes and got to tour all over europe for my first time
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment I´m working mostly in Europe with concerts and have my studio in Portugal where I do recordings and productions

Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Lately analog, I´m buying analog gear and there is a big diference on the audio quality
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I´ll do my best to help find that vibe

A: listen to new musical proyects all the time

A: Can I send you one more song? of course!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I guess the usual: nope it´s not a hobby

A: Is an emergency recording? I mean, do you need this today? Do you need brass on your section arrangment?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don´t hesitate and contact me, I will help you find that sound you are looking for
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Tenor Sax, Flute, Guitar, MPC & laptop
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Well... I grew up alone in the streets of Buenos Aires with no family and in a very violent and poor context. I had no toys so my game was imitate a drummer with boxes I collected from the trash and I also liked to play at school. Then I meet a couple of tango musicians that showed me that professional universe and I decided that I wanted to be like them
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would say that my solos are jazz/funk and my arrangments are more orchestal
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Christian Scott because I like the double melodies and seem to have a very diferent aproach to composition
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don´t overthink
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work with folk, pop, house and hip hop artist
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Solos and melodies
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I think I bring a colour, a flavor, diferent perspective or aproach to the songs, based on my carrer and my eclectic experience
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First a little talk about music, references and ideas of what is the artist looking for. Then record a coupple of options and go on from there
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Yamaha instruments, mouthpiece Otto Link and Vandoren, interface Focusrite, mics Shure 98hc and two Cad condensers pro, Mac and MPC
