Interview with Anthony Joseph
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I'm particularly proud of was one I did last year in 2021 it was the best Mastering job I've done to date and the artist was my own brother who produced it himself and it went on to do well commercially for a independent artist.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Im working on my singles and my EP as well as a EP for another artist I consistently work with. On top of those projects I'm working with a Collective on their Album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I don't know anyone on here yet, but Im always looking to others work and seeing things I could learn and do better on.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both I use certain Analog gear that helps make my job easier and add to the quality of the mix. I also use a lot of out of the box mixing with digital to bring in extra life to a song.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To hit the desire sound your aiming for.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working with all the different clients that come in to the studio or ones I work with through here. Everyone has their own distinct sound, ideas, creativity, Drive and love for music. Thats what makes this the best job.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The main question I hear all the time is am I going to get the same sound as my favorite Major label artist. My answer is yes your song will have professional quality sound, will it sound identical to your favorite artist or song no because you are not them and your sound is your own. We will get your songs that radio-ready quality your looking for.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that all of this came over night and that engineers are the unsung heroes of the music industry.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: - Are you still trying to discover your sound as a artist? - Who are your Influences as a artist and why? - Where do you see your music going when we achieve the quality of sound your looking for?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be confident in yourself and understand professionals like myself are here to help you. As engineers we work for the artist so don't hold back on ideas.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: a laptop, monitors, interface, midi keyboard and a microphone.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career path started back in 2010 when i was in highschool using Youtube university as a means to learn music and production. As time went on i knew watching tutorials on my favorite DAW an how to use it would only get me so far so I decided to reach out to engineers in hopes to work with them as a assistant and with a lot of persistence and patients I had manage to get 2 engineers attention (Jeff Jackson, Keem Ibarra) they taught me a ton and gave me opportunities at real world experience. Taking what i learned from them and tutorials I was watching i started taking on artists locally engineering for them and myself. After finishing highschool i was ready to attend the Art Institute of Las Vegas, but couldn't afford the tuition even with grants and money i had saved. So i moved back to my home town and started my own studio and with blood, sweat and tears poured into the studio over the past decade its been thriving ever since.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Decisive, Clean, Clear and Consistent with Energy.
