Endorse Dalton MundyInterview with Dalton Mundy
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My Promise is to work with you fully to meet your needs. I am always open to communication in order to get the track exactly where you want it. I will send a reference before sending the final product so that way any revisions you would like to see can take place.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The quality of audio you send me increases the quality I can send back. For example some vocal recordings are just so far gone maybe poorly recorded or distorted that no matter the amount of editing and mixing you do on them they can only go to a certain place. Help me help you!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1. Laptop 2. Headphones 3. Guitar 4. Phone 5. External Hard-drive
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I currently work as a teacher as well as a guitarist at my local church. I do mixing/mastering on the side with the goal of turning it into a full time career. I started in college which was 5 years ago took a break for about 2 years to focus on my family as a new husband and father and then picked it back up.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Music with feel. I like ambient vocals and piano on certain songs. I also like the bass and kick to work together to create that punch that you can feel in your chest when listening. On heavier songs I want the guitars to blow me away and like commonly used at times melt you face when they come in.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: At this point in my career Im willing and wanting to work with any and everyone. I love the vocals of Billie Eilish and the work her brother Finneas does on songs so they would be fun to work with and learn from. I believe the best in the game is CLA Chris Lord-Alge just being able to sit on a session with him would be a dream. Im a big fan of the worship music Elevation Church puts out and would love to be apart of that down the road.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: A key element to production and mixing overall is accenting what is already there. When someone sends something to work on, take that idea they already have and boost it. Trying to completely rework something that is already in a good place can hurt a song more than help it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I am open to all Genres. I am currently working on some worship songs, rock songs and hip hop songs all at the same time. I love MUSIC across the board.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Creating a mood within the song. I want to FEEL the song when I listen. A good song will put you in that certain place and I feel my strongest skill is bringing that out, allowing you to feel that energy.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: PASSION AND DRIVE! I want to work as much as possible to transform a good song into a great song as well as a great song into an excellent song. I have flexibility to work with the client to produce what you want to see/hear from your song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to start with arrangement and organizing everything so it makes the process much easier to work with for me. Then I like to get everything sounding good on its own without any plugins. This includes levels and panning. Once we have a good sounding mix I like to sweeten it by adding my plugins to the mix. I will work on a mix and get it where I like it then bounce it down to listen across multiple platforms such as the car and phone. I will then sleep on a mix and come back to listen again with fresh ears.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Daw: Logic Pro X Monitors/Headphones: M-Audio-Shure Microphones: Audio Technica, Shure, Blue Piano/Keyboard: Rhodes Guitars/Bass: Gibson, Fender, Taylor
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Chris Lord-Alge, Finneas, Greg Wells, Dave Penasado, Andrew Scheps
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I will mix individual instrument/vocal tracks to add to the overall mix. Once a mix I finish a mix or you send me your already mixed song I will master to get your song to industry/radio standard. If you need instruments added I specialize in Guitar/Bass however I have multiple connects for other instruments that can be used.
