Interview with Marce Giménez

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Right now, my desk is a healthy mix of different projects that keep my ears sharp. I am currently final-mastering a 3-track Progressive/Tech House EP for an independent label, doing a full multitrack stem mix and vocal tuning for a bedroom indie-pop artist to polish their home recordings, and putting the finishing touches on my own upcoming electronic music releases. I love maintaining this dynamic balance between elevating my clients' visions and pushing my own sonic boundaries in the studio every single day.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Since I am new to the SoundBetter platform, I haven't officially collaborated with other providers here yet. However, I have very high standards for my clients' music, and I am highly looking forward to connecting and building trusted partnerships with the elite session vocalists and musicians on this platform to recommend them in the future.

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: The two most common questions I get from independent artists are: "Can you make my home-recorded vocals sound professional?" and "Will my track sound as loud and powerful as commercial releases on Spotify?" My answer is always a definitive yes. First, I use surgical editing, advanced noise-reduction, and precise vocal tuning (Melodyne) to clean up room resonances and imperfections, making home vocals sound like they were tracked in a premium booth. Second, because I run my master bus through a hybrid chain anchored by physical Rupert Neve analog hardware, I can achieve competitive commercial loudness and massive streaming levels without destroying the dynamic life, punch, or warmth of your mix. No matter where you recorded it, we will make it sound elite.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: References: What are 2 or 3 commercial reference tracks or artists that inspire the mix balance, energy, and overall vibe you want for this project? Session Size: For mixing projects, how many individual multitrack stems are in your session? Vocals: If your project features vocals, were they recorded in a home studio environment, and do they require specific tuning (Melodyne) or rhythmic time-alignment? File Prep: Are your stems exported fully consolidated from bar 1 (0:00), dry (without reverb/delay), and with all master bus processing turned off? The Vision: What is the main emotion you want this track to evoke, and what is your specific deadline for the release?

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: My journey began over 20 years ago, deeply rooted in the underground electronic music scene as a Progressive House producer. As I spent thousands of hours crafting my own music, I developed a parallel obsession not just with writing melodies, but with the actual architecture of sound—how a kick sits in the low-end, how compression brings out the ghost notes, and how a master translates to a massive club system. This naturally evolved into a dedicated career in audio engineering. Over the past decade, I have channeled this extensive experience into becoming a full-time mixing and mastering specialist, refining my craft on everything from high-impact club tracks to pristine vocal post-production. Having spent years as an independent artist myself, I have the unique ability to understand exactly what your music needs from a producer's heart and an engineer's ear.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: I would describe my style as architectural, deeply emotional, and club-ready. I lean heavily into a hybrid sonical signature: chasing pristine digital clarity and three-dimensional space, while anchoring the track with the massive harmonic weight, round punchy low-end, and warm glue of analog hardware. Musically, I thrive on contrast—combining driving, hypnotic grooves and acidic baselines with lush, atmospheric textures and emotional melodies. Whether I am mixing a progressive house track or a vocal-driven indie record, my goal is to make the music feel physically powerful on the dancefloor and deeply moving to the soul.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Sasha. His unique ability to constantly reinvent his sound while maintaining an architectural, deeply emotional, and highly original approach to electronic production has always been a massive inspiration for my own craft.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I treat every single song not just as a file, but as a unique, breathing work of art. My goal is to elevate the mix so that it evokes a deep sigh, physical movement, and strong chills from the listener. If the track doesn't move you emotionally, my work is simply NOT FINISHED!

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I run a highly inspiring, multi-stage workflow. For client projects, I tackle everything systematically: starting with file preparation, time alignment, and surgical vocal tuning, moving into core frequency balancing, spatial placement, and ending with hybrid analog mastering. Balancing multiple creative projects keeps my ears completely fresh and objective for every mix down.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: My hybrid setup is built around an Apollo Twin and Genelec monitors, running Ableton Live as my main DAW, though I heavily rely on Universal Audio’s LUNA for its incredible analog summing capabilities. On the hardware side, my centerpiece is the Rupert Neve Designs MBT, which brings that essential analog weight and texture to my master bus. This is complemented by a premium digital toolkit that balances industry standards with cutting-edge processing. My chain features top-tier tools like the Weiss suite, Soundtheory Gullfoss, and DMG Audio Limitless, alongside modern essentials like Schwabe Digital’s Gold Clip and HiFAL, and advanced processing from FabFilter, ARTURIA, and Plugin Alliance.

  21. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  22. A: My promise is absolute dedication: I offer unlimited revision rounds and I will not stop until you are completely thrilled with the final result. I don’t consider my job done until your mix, master, or production perfectly translates the exact vision you have in your head into a powerful, commercial reality.

  23. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  24. A: That precise, magical moment when a mix suddenly locks into place. It’s that exact spot where the frequencies balance out, the low-end hits with perfect acoustic pressure, and the song starts to breathe. Knowing that we achieved exactly what the music was searching for is an unmatched feeling.

  25. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  26. A: Some people think that working remotely with a mixing engineer lacks a personal connection because we aren't making eye contact in the same physical studio. But music is an emotional language. Through deep, attentive listening, clear communication, and patience, I bridge that digital gap completely to make you feel like we are sitting side-by-side.

  27. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  28. A: Look for an engineer who doesn’t just look at the volume meters, but actually listens to the emotion of your song. Be open about your creative references, trust the process, and choose someone who has the patience and professional toolkit to keep pushing until your music sounds massive.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Protect your hearing at all costs! Always mix and monitor at low conversational volumes to avoid ear fatigue, and force yourself to take a 10-minute silent break every single hour. It completely resets your ears' frequency response and keeps your critical focus sharp.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: While my technical foundation allows me to handle any multi-track audio project—from vocal post-production to cinematic sound design—my ultimate passion and specialty lies in Electronic Music, House, Progressive, and all of its deep derivatives.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My absolute love for music and what it evokes. I am the kind of engineer who still cries and dances in the studio when an electronic track hits the perfect emotional peak. I am deeply obsessed with sculpting round, punchy kicks, biting acidic basses, moving melodies, and crisp, crackling highs because I live to achieve that exact physical and emotional impact in every mix. I combine this raw, visceral passion with a surgically trained ear that instantly detects and corrects any technical inconsistency in a multitrack session.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: With over 20 years of experience, my most common projects involve full multitrack stem mixing and mastering for independent artists and bedroom producers. I specialize in taking raw, unmixed recordings and using surgical EQ, precise compression, and high-end analog processing to turn them into cohesive, radio-ready tracks. I have a deep passion for mixing House music and electronic genres, which allows me to combine technical engineering with creative sonic exploration. I love collaborating globally and I’m fully dedicated to making your music sound massive and polished.

  37. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  38. A: Right now, I'm mixing a track for a video game, arranging voices and music for an NLP application, recording, mixing, and mastering an audiobook, recording and arranging voices for podcasts and voice-over videos for a political communication campaign, and working on my own electronic music compositions.

  39. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  40. A: The definitive hybrid approach. I believe in combining the best of both worlds: utilizing the surgical precision, instant recall, and elite modern emulations of the digital realm, while running my critical master busses through high-end analog hardware to inject true organic weight, analog saturation, and harmonic glue.

  41. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  42. A: 1. My fully loaded custom Audio PC, 2. My Universal Audio interface, 3. My trusted Genelec monitors, 4. Ableton Live, and 5. My Novation Impulse controller to keep the groove flowing.

  43. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  44. A: Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Chicola, Tame Impala, Henry Saiz, Nick Warren, AudioStorm, Damabiah, Lonya, EANP, Cid Inc., Sébastien Léger, Guy J, Danny Howells, Marc Marzenit, JOBE, Mariano Mellino, Christian Smith, Basil O´Glue, Casiokids, Cansei de Ser Sexy, Casino Versus Japan, Cocteau Twins, Röyksopp, Ladytron, Hans Zimmer, School Of Seven Bells, Guy Mantzur.
