Hi – I’m Ben Stinson! I’m a music producer & mix engineer from West Yorkshire, UK. I specialise in rock, punk, indie & singer-songwriter music.
Why hire a music producer?
In my opinion, a good producer is a creative partner as passionate as you are, who champions your music and provides support every step of the way - from listening to your first demo to being available for advice long after release. Personally my main goals are versatility and a relaxed, collaborative environment, allowing artists to have full control over their work.
- 3/4/5 piece band after a live-sounding album with the same energy as your gigs? No problem!
- Acoustic singer-songwriter wanting a fully produced Spotify-ready single? No problem!
- Established home-recordist just needing live drums/piano/acoustic guitar expertly recorded, or a killer mix to make your self-production shine? No problem!

Interview with Ben Stinson
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Middle Mastering - it's always best to get a second set of ears on your track while mastering. We worked with owner Benjamin Lincoln on a couple Mood Organ tracks, and not only is his pricing fair, he's incredibly friendly, easy to work with and his portfolio speaks for itself!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: PC running Ableton Live. UA Apollo interface. ATC monitors. Aston Spirit mic. Also a Steinway piano if possible!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: We usually spend an 8 hour day in the studio with the band/artist working on capturing the song, trying a couple different ways of recording to see which gives the best result. Then for mixing we take the recorded tracks to our own studio, first focusing on balancing sounds using faders only. Then, in addition to using EQ and compression, we spend time choosing the right creative effects, flavours of saturation and manually use faders for automation to add a human touch and create a dynamic, exciting mix.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: For recording, we have exclusive access to Loom Studio (Noel Gallagher, Stereophonics), a Pro Tools HD equipped custom built facility with a massive sounding live room built to BBC acoustic standards, a selection of valve pres (Focusrite ISA, Drawmer) and an enviable mic locker (Neumann, Aston, AKG). Our mixing space, Longwater Studio features a hybrid workflow, with an ART Pro VLA tube compressor providing extra warmth to vocals, bass and the mix bus alongside analogue modelled plugins from Softube, Kush Audio and Waves. A flying fader control surface allows for manually riding gains while keeping recall quick and easy. The studio was designed with an even frequency response in mind by Luca Rello Mella at GIK Acoustics in collaboration with us.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: We provide recording from one of West Yorkshire's leading recording studios, and mixing remotely for both local and international clients from our custom designed mixing studio.
