Interview with FASO Music
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: All, each one has a unique value, as each one of them has a story to tell. But my first cover version (by an artist that I admire a lot) that I produced from scratch, practically 90% with virtual instruments (except the guitar and the voice).
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm a musician on weekends and during the week with music production.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm new here, so I don't know anyone.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: This is a well-debated subject. It's wonderful to work with analog equipment, but they also have their downsides: hardware tends to be very expensive, noise, maintenance, energy consumption, and takes up a lot of space. Today, technology has made our lives much easier with its evolution, as today there are many software, plugins, that perfectly simulate practically everything, except for most of the negative points. Therefore, today I prefer the warmth of analogues, simulated by software and plugins.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to do my best, as if I were doing it for myself.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Of everything. I love to create, mix different styles, test the possibilities.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: About delivery times. My answer varies depending on the size of the project, the services they want me to do.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Thinking that a music producer is someone who records on a pendrive.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: The questions that a good producer asks, regarding what they expect for their projects, what they want to say in each song and what deadline they have to deliver the finished song.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I have no advice to give.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1 computer 1 audio interface 1 microphone 1 reference headphones and 1 midi controller
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been a musician for over 20 years (singer and multi-instrumentalist musician), I worked with many artists, I recorded as a studio musician, but with music production I started studying and working since 2013.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I don't have a specific style, because I listen to a lot, I work with many artists of different styles, maybe because of this factor I can't identify. Every project I take on, I jump right in and do my best, as if it were for me (since I'm very demanding, meticulous, detail-oriented) so that my client is happy with the result. because we who work with music production, work with people's dreams.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I don't have in mind the name of an artist I would like to work with. I like to work with musical people who have a good message to get across and who I can contribute to making it happen.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Music for me is dynamic as human life itself is, breathing, intensities, because all these factors are transformed into feelings. Whenever I produce an idea for a client, I try to understand what he wants to convey to whoever will be listening and turn it into music. So that's it, try to understand what your client means and translate it into your work, because music is not just beats, random notes, but sensations, feelings.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Since I'm Brazilian and live here, I'm always working with Brazilian music, but in my spare time I like to take multitracks of other styles and mix them to try to improve every day.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: As I'm always studying, deepening myself in studies on mixing and mastering, I consider this to be a strong skill that I have.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always try to respect, never straying from the artist's initial idea, but generally my clients let me feel free to add to their work, leaving a little of my personality because they trust my taste in music.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: This varies depending on the type of service I am providing, as each service has a specific approach.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
