Interview with Blanco Leal
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've started when i was 13 years old in different school bands in Chile, at age of 21 with Fuglar we performed in Lollapalooza and SXSW the same year! Nuts! Then I released Blanco Leal, my solo project where I just create the pop music I love. Got signed by Sony Music Chile for 2 years with Furia Fobia, a side Retro-Poprock music project that I love, where I produce, record write songs, and play guitar. I really enjoyed not being the frontman this time! Recently I got signed by Altafonte (one of the big guys from Mexico) to release my own music to all Latin America. Currently, I'm 28, living in Los Angeles, California, living from recording, producing, Dj, and mixing. This is what i do and love :)
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'm pretty happy about my career now. I've been working with amazing musicians over the years, and I think that I'm not searching for those big stars anymore, I'm looking to develop good people and amazing musicians to the top level.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Stack your snares and swing those layers :)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic Pop, Rnb and Singer Songwriter.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Im very warm to work with and passionate
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I think that people like to work with me because they feel heard, I like to try to understand what they want to express with interesting sounds and that the music sounds current.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: In the first session, listening to demos, influences, listening to YOU, what the artist wants to express with his music. I think the more I know from the Artist, the better connection we can make and the results are way better. Then, making the demo with synths, melodies, and arrangements, once we all love the demo we record analog synths if needed, and drum processing. Then followed by vocal production and premixing. Getting everything ready for the mixing engineer. Also I mix but for a different fee :)
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: James Blake, Chet Faker, Billie Eilish, Lorde
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Recording, Producing, Songwriting and Mixing
For Productions it takes me around 2-3 weeks to finish a song, 3 revisions of PreMixes if required. But if you need more revisions we can make it work as long as we both love the songs we make. :)
