Interview with Jamal Aggoun

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: There is a lot of variety in what I do. I regularly bounce between Indie / Pop-rock to Metal in the same day. I have recently finished the studio sessions for Indie Rock artist OLI BARTON and currently I am writing for a progressive metal project called TOLOACHE as well as producing my own alt-rock solo project PAPER SHIP.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Morgane Matteuzzi for incredible operatic vocals and layered harmonies. Etienne Pelosoff for big and energetic arrangements and production.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I genuinely care about music and will make sure the results fit your artistic vision ! As someone who also writes and produce his own music I know how attached we can get to our songs.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say my sense of space/structure. Knowing when a section needs a busy part or on the contrary very little is crucial.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I really try to enhance the emotions that are already there !
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually a client will send a demo of the tracks for me to record on. I can also work from charts or notation if needed.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use a variety of guitars and amps that I select depending on the requirements of the song.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Matt Bellamy from Muse, John Petrucci from Dream Theater, Steve Vai and hundreds of others !
