Interview with Juan Carlos Siu
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Right now I'm mixing a rock album which I think is the best album I mixed. The singer/producer is very talented.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mixing songs.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: No, the first time I got here.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Analog sounds very good, but digital is more versatile and sounds good too.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: it will sound better, balanced, cleaner, and full.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: making music, and mixing it.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask for references.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Get the best takes you can.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: +10 years
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm a progressive house artist, with a strong rock background, catchy melodies, and rich harmony.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Khalid, has an amazing voice.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Be organized. Naming tracks and coloring them will give me more time to focus on what is most important. As this is a creative process I can put my complete energy into the musical taste instead of cleaning and organizing every track. Record with good levels. This will give us a better Signal To Noise Ratio. Don't clip. We can't fix this, so.. make another take if you accidentally
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, pop, and EDM
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm a musician too, knowing music theory, and my influences are wide. Jazz, rock, pop, Edm, chill hop, etc.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Artic monkeys, John Mayer, Deadmau5, Nora en pure, Muse, Zedd, Owl city, Miles Davis.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do mostly mixing, and co-produce songs, in the styles of pop, rock, and edm.
