Interview with SAVG
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My track ''Sugar'' was a milestone in my career, as many people discovered my work through it and it was my first release on a major label at the time. And although I don't release any more tracks, it's one of the ones that still gets me plays to this day.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm always working on ghost productions, on or off the platform.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: So far I still have no contact with other producers on the platform.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will always deliver within the agreed deadlines, and any unforeseen events will be notified. I also always make it clear which files I send at the agreed price and what is additional, if the person wants to add it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They usually ask about which files and versions of the songs I send at the end of the work. They also ask a lot if I have previously produced the genre they are asking for.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always ask what result he wants according to his references, as we need to align expectations to achieve a good job for both of us.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: As a ghost producer I like versatility. So I try to adapt to what is requested in each job, trying to get close to the references sent. I like studying different styles and understanding how to produce that.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I like many of them, but Matroda is an idol in the sense of music production, along with Vintage Culture, who was the first artist I saw live and have always followed.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always try to bring good hooks, because for me it's what draws attention to any track, whether underground or commercial.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Whatever. It may seem like an amateur answer, but over time you realize that the final audience won't care about that, but good music will.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The flexibility of time and the use of creativity.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That is easy.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please send the details you are most looking for in the songs and their references. This makes the job easier and faster.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A notebook, an audio card, a good headset, a table and a chair hahah.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: SAVG is the project created by Lucas Fernandes, in January 2018, where he started his career as a DJ and music producer. With more than 375,000 plays across platforms, Lucas has already released on great record labels like Brazza and Alphabeat. In mid-2020, he created SAVG Studio, where he started with ghost producing and mix and master work, as he realized that many DJs, despite loving music, did not have the time available to dedicate themselves to music production. In addition, it also produces content to help DJs who are taking their first steps as producers.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Mentally deconstruct your reference songs to try to understand how it was created.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: The ones I have the most requests at the moment are Bass House and Tech House.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I believe that my greatest skill is to specifically understand the client's requests in order to do something right and that won't make both of them waste time.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I look for reference songs for the genre, and that way I observe how the elements were put together to bring that essence to my work and make something as professional as it is.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I am currently inspired by the sound of artists such as Ownboss, VINNE, Tiesto, etc. I also really like groovy tech house, like Classmatic, Michael Bibi, The Martinez Brothers, among others.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am currently inspired by the sound of artists such as Ownboss, VINNE, Tiesto, etc.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Nowadays most of my work is as a ghost producer. It really was where I found myself: doing what I love (producing) without necessarily showing up.
