Nils Ringelhäuser on SoundBetter

I will compose contemporary piano music and film music with orchestral synthetic elements individually according ot your requirements.

I am a side business composer (mostly for film and media) based in Germany. My compositions are often sentimental, emotional and sad. My music sounds like a mixture between Hans Zimmer, Ólafur Arnalds and Yiruma. I am working with Cubase from Steinberg (DAW). For all my compositions I use my own samples and premium VST plugins from Spitfire Audio, Native instruments, Cinesamples and many more.
Music has the rare gift of touching the heart and the soul deeply inside. This is exactly what gives me the motivation and inspiration for my compositions. The thought of being able to move people with my music drives me.

Interview with Nils Ringelhäuser

  1. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  2. A: Q: How much does it cost? A: It depends on the project type. Let's have a call to talk about your ideas.

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: I mostly compose sentimental and emotional Piano Music with orchestral and synthetic elements in the style of Ólafur Arnals, Hans Zimmer or Ludovico Einaudi.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: Contemporary classical composers like Ólafur Arnalds Joep Beving, Ludovico Einaudi or Max Richter. Also film composers like Hans Zimmer, John Williams or Ennio Morricone. My favorite musician of all time is Johann Sebastian Bach.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: 1. Conversation with customer or other musicians. 2. Then thinking about the piece (what feelings, what instruments, ...). 3. Then I play some chords and start to improvise to the Chords on the piano. If I like it I will write a piano sketch of it. 4. After this I start arranging the piece, adding more instruments and additional elements like textures or pads. 5. When I have the first draft, I will send it to the customer. 6. If there are any revisions I will take these into account. 7. I will mix and master the piece (but I am not a pro) and show it to the customer again. 8. If there are any revisions I will take these into accout. 9. The customer got to pay for the result (and can write a review on SoundBetter page).

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: As DAW I use Cubase from Steinberg. For orchestral sounds I mainly use the VST plugins from Spitfire Audio and Orchestral Tools. For piano sounds I mainly use Native Instruments pianos and the pianos from VILabs. I also use thousands of other electronic and synthetic sounds as well as self-made samples.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: calm, tranquil, emotional, sentimental, beautiful melodys, cinematic, athmospheric, sad

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Contemporary piano music with orchestral and synthetic elements for film and media.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Creating a complete piece of music from an idea that captivates the listener. No matter whether it is a piece for piano, orchestra or choir.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: Feeling, emotion and great melodys. A deep level of atmosphere, dynamics and details that make the listener want to listen the piece again.

  19. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  20. A: Scoring Contest from The Cuetube 2022 - I learned a lot during this time. I composed two original pieces for two film sequences.

  21. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  22. A: Composing, writing and commercialization of a few choral and organ pieces.

  23. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  24. A: Not yet.

  25. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  26. A: For my music I need both.

  27. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  28. A: If you don't like the music, we can end the cooperation at any time and you don't have to pay anything.

  29. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  30. A: Music is my passion, my fulfillment and my drive. I love composing music that moves the heart and touches the soul.

  31. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  32. A: Please don't assume I know what you're thinking. The piece may not sound exactly as you imagined after one try. Composing is a process that takes time. We have to talk a lot and maybe try a few things until the result sounds the way you want it.

  33. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  34. A: Can you give me any reference tracks of how you would like it to sound? That gives me a good idea of what instruments and sounds to use, what kind of atmosphere it needs to be, how to approach the piece and how to compose onto it.

  35. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  36. A: Be as specific as possible in describing what you want, and provide a reference track if it is possible. Keep in touch with the musician and say early enough if you don't like something.

  37. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  38. A: Piano (with MIDI), PC, Headphones, electrical engine and Internet

  39. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  40. A: Since I am six years old I am playing the piano and the organ. At the moment I am a side business composer. In my main job I am a process manager and leading manager.

  41. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  42. A: Hans Zimmer - he is my favorite composer and I think I could learn a lot from him.

  43. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  44. A: 1. Listen to music of classical composers to get inspired (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven,...) 2. Do not make your music dependent on plugins or gear.
