J. Wharton

Film, Media & Podcast Composer

J. Wharton on SoundBetter

Expect my soundtracks to be ambient, contemplative, sublime and textured; blurring digital and analog lines. As a composer I have written original music for award-winning short films, internationally chart-topping podcasts and commercials for major global brands. Keen to work with new directors / producers and make new and original works together.

Through my work to date I have developed a dramatic electronic ambient style that draws on acoustic, classical textures whilst exploring electronic synthesised sound design.

With over a decade of experience, music I have written has been featured on Netflix, BBC, NBC, Channel 4 and Sky, played on most major UK radio stations and synced to TV shows such as Made in Chelsea and A League of Their Own. I have also produced commercial work for brands such as Tag Heuer, Nintendo and David Morris, as well as production music for SATV and BMG.

In February 2024 I composed the original score for the short film ‘Lessons’, this was my sixth narrative film score. Previously, I have scored narrative dramas which have been featured on Sky Arts and Channel 4.

In 2023, I wrote the original score to the live culinary event ‘Flavour & Some’ at London's Battersea Power Station with co-composer Stephanie Singer. I also produced original music for ‘Bodies Tilted’, a live experience commissioned by and based on the music of Christine & The Queens at The South Bank’s Meltdown Festival.

Being a voracious listener myself, I have also written original scores for many long-form podcasts, including the chart-topping ‘Coffee & Flowers’, developed with and about, The National. Most recently I scored the 12 episode podcast series ‘Techtonic’ for human rights charity, Article 19.
