Interview with KLA
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Sultry, swedish pop inspired melodies with lyrics that are colorful and stand out from the rest.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Fire up the palo santo, consume lots of coffee and dive in. If I'm starting with a beat I listen for a few times before diving in, just to get into the headspace. After living with it a bit I start to sing whatever melodies feel right and authentic. If something lands I follow that with lyrics. It's typically the melody that comes first for me, followed by lyrics. That's usually the path to success.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I write a lot for TV/FILM and music trailers in addition to working for my band, Vinyl Pinups. I'm constantly writing new commercials, and for emerging artists here in Nashville. Currently curating a side project for KLA that's inspired by Palm Springs, big palm leaves and moody strings. Stay tuned..
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I treat everything that I'm working on as the highest level, and I don't believe in saving my best work for other people. I'll give 100% every time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Ever time I step into the studio or behind the mic it's pure magic. I love getting lost in the music, melodies and vibe. It's something that can't 100% be explained, you just feel like you're in another world. It's the best kind of high.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been singing since I was a little girl, writing music ever since I sat down at the piano around 8 years old. I've known I wanted to do music my entire life, and have followed that path and been in the industry ever since, for over 20 years.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop is my forte, but I also love writing hip left of center indie pop music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My voice. It's unique, modern, and authentic. Melodies are my strongest skill.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a studio set up in my house where the creativity happens. I work with a lot of artists in this room and a lot of great music has been created there.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Lana Del Rey and Sia inspire me daily with their lyrics, beautiful melodies and individuality. They are both bold with dark undertones. The music they make moves me.
