Michael from berry boss studio was incredible! He understood exactly what I wanted and did exactly what I asked for and got me the sound I was looking for !
I did a rock song with him and all the instruments were clear and crisp ! Very professional and easy to deal and communicate with . Will be hiring him for future projects for sure .
Highly recommended! I am a member of the group, "Honey Tree". Michael has produced, mixed, mastered and played keyboards on all of the material we have released. Working with him has not only been a pleasure, but a great learning experience. His technical knowledge on the production/engineering side coupled with his virtuosic musicianship distinguishes him as an invaluable resource. Recording sessions feel stressless and natural at his studio and he is keenly attentive and cooperative in post production to ensure the product fulfills and exceeds expectations. Berry Bliss Studios will make your music better!
Interview with Berry Bliss Studios
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I have been very proud of the tracks I worked on with a group called Honey Tree (reference track). In these projects I mic'd and recorded the band, played keyboard, edited, mixed and master the tracks. It has been such a pleasure to work on music from beginning to end.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Recording two bands in from tracking to mix to master in the next month or so and developing my own sound.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not personally, but there are many great professionals in every area of music production.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Each has value and in today's world it is very important to be versatile.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to never forget their musical and emotional intention and I will be sure to keep that alive and vibrant throughout the process of mixing.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Bringing client's vision to life and helping their music be heard by the world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customer: Do you mind tweaking this part of the track? Me: Of course not, this is your music and I want you to be happy with it!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I feel there can be misconceptions about the possibility of mixing (especially for newer artists) and how much value it brings to a track.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have a reference track for the track you want mixed? Do you have any specific things you want me to focus on?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Think about the vision for not only your music but who you are as an artist and let's bring it to life.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Because there probably wouldn't be access to power I would want to bring live instruments to keep creating music. Shure SM7B, Tascam 8-Track Digital Portastudio, Yamaha C7, Drum Set, Hammond B3. This way I can make music all day long with the other inhabitants on the island.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been a musician since I was five and have focused on piano study for many years. For the past 8 years I have focused my attention on music production. I have learned an immense amount about audio editing through my work editing podcasts/interviews and my degree for Music Production through Berklee college of music.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Transparent and specific.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jacob Collier, because I find his way of speaking and describing his musical process to be very deep, which gives his music many layers.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't be afraid to take away or attenuate before you try to boost.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, soul, blues, R&B, and jazz.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Getting into the specifics of sounds/tracks so each has their own place in the mix.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a perspective of an audio engineer with years of musical performance and recording experience. My value is that I understand both sides of the music making process. I connect to the emotional intention of the song and base my mix around that.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For mixing, communication first with client about emotional and musical intention, rough mix (balance and panning), editing if needed, EQ and Compression, effects (reverb, delay, doubling, stronger compression, parallel effects), Automation of effects and faders as needed, polish and bounce to mix. Master in separate session.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Pro Tools as my main editing, mixing and mastering DAW. I have ADAM A77X as my main monitors for superb response, Audio Technica Reference headphones, Focusrite Scarlett, Interface, Korg SV-1 Keyboard, Impact LX49+ Midi Controller an array of microphones as well!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Matthew Ellard, Rick Rubin, Mark Ronson, Jacob Collier. Matt Johnson
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I take raw tracks and mix and master them to the clients content. I find clarity in a mix through creating space for every track within the sonic field. This allows for deeper transparency for the client's musical intention to shine through.
