Interview with Collin Hanley
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I do a ton of work in the pop, americana, and singer songwriter genres, but have experience in CCM, rock, and hiphop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm really care about making both the mix and the experience amazing for the client. I want them to feel heard and understood and I think that typically makes great art.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a trained ear and a knowledge of audio that can bring your vision to life. I can hear a reference and know how to get that sound or what sound the client is most likely looking for.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For Mixing I try to get a first mix back to the client within the week. I am very careful to honor the rough mix I'm given. Clients typically love so much about the mix they've created, even though they are looking for an outside mixer. I try to create a mix that feels like a larger than life and more even (if that's what they want) version of their rough.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home studio setup with gorgeous PMC monitors, an Apollo, the UAD Sphere Modeling Microphone for tracking Vocals, and loads of natural light. I also have a studio I work out of to record drums and full bands.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm a huge fan of mixers: Serban Ghenea (obviously), Matt Huber, and Mitch McCarthy. As for Artists, I love Ed Sheeran, the 1975, The Cranberries, Green Day, Katy Perry, and Noah Kahan.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I most commonly mix people songs. I do a ton of work in the pop, americana, and singer songwriter genres, but have experience in CCM, rock, and hiphop.
