I've got nearly 15 years experience recording and mixing anything from Acoustic singer-songswriters to Jam Bands, primarily focusing on Emo, and various alt-rock genres. I'm the co-owner of Secret House Recording based in Philly.
Howdy! I'm Kev! I'm a multi-instrumentalist recording and mixing engineer based out of Secret House Recording in Manayunk, PA and South New Jersey. I've been a musician for the better part of 30 years playing in punk, emo and metal bands in various capacities including vocals, bass, guitar and drums. I've been working professionally as an audio engineer for about 15 years, in that time I've focused my efforts on using modern day techniques used primarily in heavier music on any genre to make every final product sound pristine and current without losing the essence of that particular genre.

Endorse Kevin Marcoux7 Reviews

Kevin has engineered, mixed, and mastered multiple projects I’ve been involved with and never disappoints. One of my favorite people to record with, Kevin has always been very professional and easy to work with. He’s supportive and encouraging during tracking and very receptive to notes and tweaks during the mixing phase. Great attention to detail and does everything he can to get you the sound you’re hearing in your mind. I’ve tracked drums with him 7+ times now and could not recommend him enough!

If you are looking for someone who’s going to give your project their full attention and won’t stop until it’s exactly what you want, then Kevin is your guy! I roped Kevin into working with me on my lofty solo album idea and I am so thankful that I did because, it turned out exactly how I wanted! He’s super easy to get along with, he is a great engineer, but most importantly, he sees your vision and knows how to get you there. I enjoyed the entire process of working with Kevin and I’ll be coming back soon, whether he likes it or not. Just stop reading reviews already and send him a message!

Kevin is the exact person you want to work on your music with. Period. Kev will encourage you to express yourself in your truest way, hear everything you have to say, and never leave you feeling without a navigator. He puts your needs first and will motivate you to achieve your goals. Most easy-going, hardest working, skilled engineer I've worked with - will ALWAYS recommend!

Kevin and I met when our mutual friend asked me to join their band. When I heard Kevin’s production for Sleeper Creek’s Halo, I knew this was a band that put the hardest work possible into their songs. I joined instantly. Kevin never fails to disappoint when working on other’s projects as well. I recommended all of my buddies to Kevin and they never EVER had any complaints about the final product. Kevin is the best engineer I know. Just listen to his portfolio! You won’t be disappointed!

I have been working with Kev for almost a decade now, and it has always been a pleasant, encouraging experience. He is so easy to work with, and takes your opinions and goals seriously. He handles every song with respect and care. I can't recommend him enough!

Interview with Kevin Marcoux
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Rob Bulman for any session drum work you need. He's my guy.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! Every piece of gear is going to have a different quality that could be right for somethings and not right for others.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will work with you until you are happy. If you aren't satisfied, the project isn't done.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have any band/album/mix references? Are you married to any particular sounds or pieces of gear? When do you want to get started?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be open to outside advice. An outside ear is an incredibly useful thing especially when you've been listening to your own material for a really long time.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started toying with sound gear around age 12, went to school for Audio Production, got a few internships after, worked in a studio for 10 years before opening my own.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I believe my style is very contemporary, particularly with my drum productions, but I like dynamic sounding recordings which is what I strive for.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Spend as much time as you can to make sure the gear you're using is correct for the project. If it isn't try something else. Of course the most important thing is practice practice practice. An engineer or producer can only do some much to a performance if it isn't right.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly alternative rock genres, punk, indie.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Editing is probably my strongest skill, after that my drum mixing ability. I've spent years trying to find the perfect drum sounds.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I believe because of my musical tastes I bring a unique ear to anyones music, but from a production perspective I really like to capture raw energy in the room rather than rely on in-the-box hocus pocus to make everything work in the end
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: If I'm recording a band or musician, I'll spend the better part of a day working on pre-production with the band/musician to make sure everything is working well with the music and then a day or two per song to record. After tracking, I immediately get to editing and mixing as soon as possible to be able to deliver a mix to the band for review.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I track into Pro Tools via a MOTU 24ai/ao converter set up with Focal Alpha Twin Evo Dual 6.5in monitors with a Focal Sub-One 8in Subwoofer. My Preamp rig currently consists of a Universal Audio 4-710d, (2) CAPI VP312, (4) SSL SixCH, (2) Lindell Audio 6X-500, and (2) Fredenstein Artistic MicPre SE.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Nolly Getgood, Will Putney, Will Yip, Chris Lord-Alge, David Bendeth
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I most commonly work with bands on pre-production, recording and mixing.
