10 years of recording & mixing experience for your project needs

My name is Christian.

I am a 52 year old recording & mixing engineer and run a studio out of the beautiful city of Wiesbaden in Germany. I have many years of experience in creating professional mixes. I have grown up with Rock music but am equally proficient in Jazz, Blues and Pop.

In my experience it is attention to detail that leads to great recordings and mixes that stand out. As such I will take the time to get your mix right. It's the perfect mix and the happy artist enjoying it that motivates me.

For me mixing is not about technology, the latest plugins, hardware or software but about giving you what you are looking for and making your art shine. I thus appreciate as much information about your vision as possible and appreciate the chance to communicate with you during a project.

Besides mixing I do play the drums myself as musician in a band and thus have cooperated with many artistes on stage over the years. This gives me a good understanding of band dynamics and band needs, which makes me the ideal mixing engineer for your band mixing projects.

Send me a note through the contact button above.

This went very well. Christian turned the mix around within less than a week (faster than promised) and the result was very good, there wasn’t even a need for a revision. We were surprised how good the result sounded. Can recommend.

„Worked with Christian on some demo songs for my band. Communication was great and the resulting mixes came out very nice and useful. Christian also did some nice editing and vocal tuning for us where it was needed. Can definitively recommend working with him.“

We as a 5 piece band (dr, b, k, g, vo) recorded 4 songs (soul/funk/jazz) in Christians spacious and comfortable studio. Total time for the whole process was about 6 hours. Excempt instruments and other personal gear Christian provided all technical equipment. His support was technically impeccable and enjoyable. Christian performed extensive post-production work including overdubbing. The band was absolutely content and happy with the results, Christian provided tastefully mixed sound files of highest quality two weeks after the recording session. Highly recommended!

Interview with Christian Labeck

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: I work 100% digital because with today's digital tools you can get the great sound of analog gear without suffering from the drawbacks of using analog gear.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I love the satisfaction of delivering a perfect product at the end.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Share as much information about what you are looking for as you can. What music inspires you ?What reference songs do you have? What are you trying to achieve with your specific project?

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I have been mixing since 10+ years. I started with mixing for myself and my own band. Over time jobs for other bands came on top, both live and in studio, rounding out my profile and giving me a broad experience.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: The better the original recording the better the final product.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Mostly do rock, pop, jazz and blues

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Attention to detail and passion for perfection.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: Every new mixing projects starts with listening to client rough mix and any reference mixes to determine vision of final product. The second stage is premixing during which I lay out the raw tracks, complete any necessary editing/cleanup/multing etc. tasks. Third stage is an initial static mix for first reference to confirm production decisions. This can be shared with client to confirm approach is in line with expectations. The fourth stage is creating the dynamic mix incl. automation etc. Fifth stage is critical listening using multiple playback setups (yes, I do a "car check" for bass/kick heavy music from time to time). If I am satisfied basic levelling is applied to ensure competitive loudness before client review and any revisions that might come thereafter. I am NOT a mastering engineer.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I mix 100% in hardware, using a modern large format digital mixing console. It gives me superior access and speed to all necessary parameters "at the fingertip" and avoids getting lost in endless parameter tuning "in the box". I do operate a 2.0 and a 5.1 monitoring setup and thus can also do surround mixes if needed.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: Andy Wallace is an inspiration for clear and hard-hitting hard-rock/metal mixes. Bruce Swedien for smooth but punch pop mixes.
