Interview with Fady Nady
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Haqq Arab (Ramadan 2024) A TV series aired in Ramadan 2024, produced by the largest production company in the Middle East (United - Synergy). I worked on it as an assistant sound engineer.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Freelance Sound/Audio Engineer
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It's all about budget. If you have the budget, why use an emulator instead of the original? Of course, the original has a taste that no emulator can imitate
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise my clients that they will receive their project exactly as they envision it.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Lots of effects for no reason are thought to improve sound quality, but in reality, less is better.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, Mixer, Audio interface, Headphone, Mic.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Five years ago, I started as a rap artist trying to produce my own songs. I began learning the basics of music production, mixing, and mastering. I spent a considerable time learning from people and online resources like courses and videos, and I read and experimented until I deepened my knowledge in mixing. Eventually, I set up my own home studio, selling things I loved to buy equipment. I started working freelance, recording and doing mix and master for other artists until I got a job mixing advertisements for a Saudi company (outside my country). I spent a year working with them before establishing a studio with a businessman in Mokkatm (an area in Cairo). I supervised everything from soundproofing technicians to selecting and installing equipment and fully operating the studio. Later, I applied to the Higher Institute of Cinema, specializing in sound engineering, and passed their entrance exams (they only accept eight people per year). My studies in sound engineering and past work helped me excel, and I was top of my class. After that, I embarked on a more professional career, working on projects with significant production values which appearing on television, handling live sound for ministers and high-profile events, and doing sound design and mixing for films and their promotional music. Now, I aim to expand my company further to increase my earnings.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Travis Scott
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip-Hop
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Just start with a rough mix similar to the reference track the client gave me.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
