Interview with Will Lite

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I monitor almost entirely with my ATC SCM25As... (phenomenal speakers). I then also check on a number of different systems for reference. I operate mainly ITB now, with the exception of a few hardware units, such as the Avalon VT-737, Manley Massive Passive EQ and an API 2500 Bus Compressor. In terms of software, I'm a big fan of UAD and use a lot of their plugins in my work. My room is also acoustically treated to a precise standard which is quite critical for the purpose of Mixing & Mastering!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I could mention endless names. But I have to say the likes of Dave Pensado - from his hundreds, if not thousands of hours of valuable content online that helped myself and so many other mix engineers when we were first trying to figure it all out. In my early days in music, I looked to the work of the early 2000s US Rap & R&B producers and engineers. Studying the vocal chains and tips they gave in interviews. In my opinion, that is the golden era of sonics in this genre.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and Mastering... clients often request for me to provide both together. However, on occasion a client may already have a mix that they are happy with and wish to have it mastered. In such cases, I will of course oblige!
