Interview with Alysa Janeí
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I co-wrote a verse on an artist's single. The song lyrics were my most 'risque' lyrics but very catchy and the client was satisfied.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently co-writing with a couple of artists within and out of the country.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like being able to come up with creative work and sharing it with the world, even if it doesn't get a lot of recognition.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about what I do is; composing music. I do not create all my instrumentation.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What type of sound are you looking for? Any specific topic you want lyrics written for? What is the deadline for the song?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Headphones, laptop, microphone, mini keyboard, and interface.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as reserved encentricity. I like a little of alternative pop and rnb, and some ballad like music.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: For background singing gigs, I did vocals on Hip-hop, Afrobeats, and RnB. As for my writing, so far I wrote on RnB, Dance, and Pop beats.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I believe my strongest skill is my writing, I like to come up with creative lyrics and I like to use metaphors.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: As soon as I receive a background singing project, I practice the song until memorized up to the date of recording or recording due. As for my writing, I like to get an idea of what the concept the artist is going for and then create a list of words I would use or words the artist would like to use and create a melody with them.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I currently have an AKG P220 microphone and a Focusrite interface for recording. I record all my work on my MacBook Pro.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I co-write song lyrics and melodies. I also sing background for independent artists. I have also done demos.
