Interview with Aaron Ford

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My first single. It showed me that I could make mix and master my own music. It gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: An Ep for a choir named Anointed Word.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I love analog. From the sound it gives to being able to touch the dials and knobs.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise is that you will be pleased with your finished product.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love sound and hearing unity in music when it all comes together.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: There is a magic plug-in or process that can the music sound good.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Have a clear idea of what you want to hear. It helps to have reference tracks. A great performance makes the song. Finally, a perfect mix is a done mix. Don’t over stress the small details.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: MacBook Pro, Steven Slate Vsx headphones, Akai midi keyboard, Antelope Audio Edge Go mic, 5tb hard drive.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: Mixing in mono is essential to get balance

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: Hip-hop, RnB, Live recordings, instrumentals

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Vocal tuning, balance,

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I bring clarity and balance to songs

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: I always start with asking the client for a reference track to have an idea of what they want. Then I take a listen to the project and take notes to assess what’s going on.

  28. A: For mixing and producing I use a pair of KRK studio monitors with a sub or I use the Steven slate VSX headphones. For mastering and some of my mixes I have access to an Ssl audio board with Genelec monitors and outboard gear.
