Interview with Erick Paz
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I've grown a lot working with my partner Pablo Gijón, who's a songwriter and producer from Mexico, together we've written a couple of tracks, I got to structure different sections of the song, arrangements, recordings, I've done mixing and mastering work
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm producing the newest single by Estroberita a band emerging in the Mexican indie scene
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both are great, there's lots of great plugins that recreate analog sounds
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You'll love the end result, we'll work on it together to make the best we can
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It will always be entertaining to work on music, and to collaborate with artists to develop their art
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I'm not just a DJ, what audio engineers and producers do go from recording instruments to design sounds, mixing and creating music

A: Use reference tracks to help us out figure out what is it exactly that you're looking for
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Definitely my laptop, an audio interface, a pair of headphones, an instrument cable and my guitar
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing guitar at the age of 8 years old, I quickly fell in love with music, learning different instruments in the way like bass guitar and drums mostly, my necessity to create my own ideas pushed me to learn about audio production, a topic I've been learning about for the last 6 years, I started out recording my own songs and ideas, then I produced the songs for my first band, people in my area started noticing my work so I got to produce an album for a local band called Sunset, more recently I've worked with singer songwriter Angie, and produce the songs for my main music project called Estroberita in which I work with my best friend
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm a groove heavy producer, I consider my influences to be diverse, Some of the artists that have inspired me the most have been Michael Jackson, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Exodus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, LEISURE, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any artist has a different take on music and I'm always open to listen, learn and help these artist to develop their ideas into a final work
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Keep it simple, make some room for space, and prioritize the hooks

A: I work on different styles of music such as Pop, Indie, House, LoFi Hip Hop, House, Rock, Metal, Disco and Funk

A: My guitar playing, arranger and producer mindset

A: I can bring creativity, structure, sound design and textures, hooks

A: I listen to the idea a couple of times, I reimagine it and then I start trying different parts that could suit the song best

A: I've got a home studio setup, I can do professional audio recordings of different instruments, good monitoring and treatment for mixing, I produce in Logic Pro X
