Interview with Oscar Torres

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The album Destino by Johan Y Sofi had eight tracks, which ended up becoming 18. I loved every moment, from composing the songs to rehearsing and producing them. Every sound was put together with a lot of love. On that album, I was the music producer, guitarist, and track editor.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: In an album by Johan and Sofi that will be released early this year

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Gabriel Farias

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both of us love using analog equipment, but we also appreciate the convenience of being able to use digital equipment now.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I won't rest until their song plays as they expect and better.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The finished work.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: If just their audio and their guitar or piano is enough, and I say yes, I can even use one of them singing a cappella!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: No matter what files we receive, we have to work with what they send us and make it sound like the references, even if they send us something that is very poorly recorded.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Do you have any reference for the sound you want to achieve?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be very specific about what you want.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My Computer, Interface, Midi Controller, My guitar and my Mic

  28. A: Bethel Music, they´re my reference point for all my work.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Applying reverse to some samples, such as the rhythm guitar, and combining it with the original sound can add more movement and dynamism to the song. Plus, if you apply it well, you can create a unique sound.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Worship, pop rock, country music

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Music Production, sound desing, synths, guitars, drums arrangement

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: The sound it will have, what will set it apart from the rest of the songs.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Generally, the client sends me their demo, either with their band or just them with their voice and an instrument or just their voice, and that's where I start my work. In pre-production, I change some harmonies, melodies, and whatever else is necessary to take their song from being a good song to a VERY good song with the potential to be a hit. Then, in production, I choose the instruments that will be used, the synths, and so on. I compose the arrangements, record them, and send them for corrections. From then on, it depends on how many corrections the client has.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a music studio here in my city, full of analog equipment such as compressors, equalizers, and harmonic exciters, with a very nice mixing and recording console, my API 1608-II, which is what helps me most to achieve that sound that characterizes me.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: David Funk, Nick Stailey, Chris Greely

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Music production and guitar recording
