Interview with MORGADO

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: Hard work and commitment.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Everything, I love music.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: The idea that one needs a lot of gear to make pro music. What one needs a lot is experience to know how to use the tools you have.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: What is your goal? The impact of the work will be proportional to the amount of time and effort they put into it. I'm just a facilitator.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Audio interface, computer, studio monitors, one mic, one preamp.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I began playing live in bands until I discovered what I enjoyed the most was the studio time. I've been involved in music for 15 years.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Separation is king. Harmonic distortion is the queen.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Probably mixing/mastering, although I've been a composer for a long time.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: Personal input of several years of writing music and specializing in production, mixing and mastering.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have a hybrid workflow where all my outboard gear is connected to 3 patchbays.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: What happens the most is the artist sends me a demo. I will tipically adjust any section that needs work and build my own demo version of the song to show to the artist. After everything is done and, most importantly, approved by the artist, i will record them, mix and master the song.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: I record, produce, mix and master songs.

  25. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  26. A: Digital for precision work, analog for color. One usually can't do what the other does in the same way. Hybrid is always the way to go for me.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: Very objective. The process of producing a song is usually quick.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I've worked on a lot of different genres, from pop to rock to trap and even classical.
