Interview with Mason Riggs
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I mastered our first Demo EP
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My band's project
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. For my band, we take an approach to recording as if we are recording on tape and have the added blessing of digital editing/ mixing.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: The best sounding mix you can get for this price point
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I'm not the top engineer on the planet. What you'll get is 110% effort and focus on your project
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Harley Benton Guitar, Marshall origin 50 Watt amp head and cab, Neuman 87 Mic, Audio interface/ Recording gear
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm the vocalist in a rock band. We mix and master our own stuff. I'd like to work on more projects outside of my own.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd like to work with any artist.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Broad strokes, then fine tune. Focusing on the kick drum at 1 minute 26 seconds in instead of the overall goal of the song will kill your mix.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Metal, Country, would love to do more rap and hip hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: my ear, attention to detail
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A different kind of ear. I'm looking to mix a song to stand the test of time, radio ready, playlist ready, chart-topping ready.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen to the song in full. Imagine the energy and emotion behind it, feel it in real time and go to work like it is my own project.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: At Home Studio, Professional plugins, Kali LP6 Studio monitors, Professional outboard gear.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Bart Rose of Fort Worth Sound
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, mastering, instrumentals
