Interview with Guttaskum_makesbeats
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My solo song “29 Reasons” by Lil Rx is the most personal song I’ve written and performed. It’s about my wife leaving me after 12 years and the emotional toll it’s taken on my life.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently producing an rnb track for a signed artist. I’ve sent him some demos and he is thrilled with them !
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: This is my first venture on this site, so untill I find someone i admire, I’ll leave this question unanswered.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Analog gear gives tracks and performances a “life” and color that the digital realm can’t quite replicate. On the other hand, digital offers more flexibility and is more forgiving and cost effective then analog gear. I can get an awesome digital emulation of an analog piece of gear at a fraction of the cost.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Ill deliver on time every time, and if their is any issue, or your unhappy with my service, I will do whatever I need to to make sure your satisfied with my service.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The ability to create and express myself freely without having a traditional 9-5 job. It gives me time to spend with my son.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Did those tattoos hurt? And yes, yes they hurt very bad but we’re worth it. And no, I don’t regret them.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it’s easy to find rappers or singers to sell beats to. It’s been an extremely tedious and long road to get to where I am today, and I still have room for growth !
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What style or vibe are you looking for in this song? Are their any artist you’d like to sound like?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Always check their portfolio of tracks. They may type a good description of what they do, but if the songwriting and production isn’t their, your out of luck.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My acoustic guitar, a guitar pick, a notebook, a pen, and my bible.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am a professional audio engineer recording clients , ghostwriting lyrics, and producing songs for clients. I’ve been doing this for over 10 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is emo mixed with a trap with a sprinkle of rnb.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with City Morgure, who influenced me to start producing in the first place. Their combination of metal and trap beats really attracted my ears, coming from a metal/rock background. I’d never heard the two combined soo well.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: ALWAYS finish what you started. Don’t move on to a new song or idea untill you’ve completed the one you started.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on all types of music. I was a touring musician for years playing guitar and drums in signed alternative rock and metal bands.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my understanding of the musical elements that go into each genre im producing. The bass in a pop song will be different from the bass in a trap song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a lifelong love of music in all genres to my Songwriting. From rap to heavy metal, my influences come from all genres of music.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Clients contact me through my website describing the type of beat they would like. They send a reference track or two so I understand the sound they want and I’m off to the races !
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a 2019 iMac running protools and Logic Pro X. I have an extensive collection of top tier, industry standard plugins such as the SLATE digital, WAVES audio, IZOTOPE Mastering, and UAD plugin Suites.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I look up to the Producer Thraxx. He does a lot of work with the NYC rap duo City Morgue.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I provide a custom beat service to rappers / singers. I create 100% custom beats in any style they request for $50.
