Rachel Icenogle

Cellist and Strings Arranger

Rachel Icenogle on SoundBetter

Specializing in unusual sound/noise (but well-versed in more traditional sound too), I can add dynamic texture and depth to arrangements. Cellist/arranger on Hop Along’s “Bark Your Head Off, Dog” and cellist on Eric Slick’s “Bullfighter”. I have played on more than 50 albums, most of which were arranged by me.

A versatile cellist with a mind for new and interesting sounds, I love to explore the tonal palette of my instrument. All of the unique timbres the cello can make are my inspiration and muse. I’ve been regularly working as a studio and session musician since 2007, and I appreciate the opportunity it gives me to expand other artists’ work and give them the sound they’ve been looking for. I have been interested in improvisation since I was very young, and it has always been a focus in my career. One of my great passions is working on avant-garde or experimental music, but I have a big soft spot for punk and rock too. I hold a BFA in Cello Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and when I’m not in the studio I can usually be found doing multidisciplinary collaborations with puppetry, theater, dance, or circus arts.
