Gabe Valle on SoundBetter

Professional violinist/violist/cellist, arranger and producer who has worked on projects for NPR, Amazon Prime, Netflix, MTV and collaborated with Billboard Hot 100 artists. Primary instruments are the violin, viola and cello and also utilizes the piano, electric and acoustic guitar, e bass and much more.

I’ve spent years helping artists and producers bring records to life through live strings, orchestral arranging, and modern production. Whether you need a single emotional violin line or a full cinematic string arrangement, my goal is always to serve the song first and create something that feels real and organic.

I specialize in indie, pop, alternative, cinematic, singer-songwriter, folk, and film-inspired music, blending classical training with a modern production mindset. My work ranges from intimate stripped-back textures to massive layered arrangements inspired by today’s biggest records. Every project is recorded remotely from Big & Tall Recording just outside New York City using high-quality gear, live instruments, and a collaborative artist-first approach.

Services include:
• Live violin, viola, and cello overdubs
• String arranging and orchestration
• Quartet and ensemble production
• Cinematic textures and layering
• Solo violin composition and hooks
• Full string stem delivery for mixing

I pride myself on fast communication, quick turnaround times, and making the process easy for artists at every level. Whether you have a fully produced track or just a voice memo and an idea, I’d love to help turn it into something unforgettable.

Gabe has elevated my music in ways that I didn’t know where possible… Not only is he a multi-instrumentalist. He has the right ear to know when to add and went to subtract… When it comes to his string playing he truly is magnificent anytime I am in need for some emotional balls. He’s the first one to work his magic!

Gabe is a musical magician. He understands music from many points of view whether it be melody, harmony, or any other crack or crevice of sound. I trust Gabe with anything that makes a noise. Two thumbs up

Gabe has written and recorded some absolutely beautiful string arrangements for me over the years. Some of the best recordings I have of my music are as great as they are because of the work that he’s done on them. For one particular song, I laid down guitar and vocals but I really wanted to add some sort of magical element and I’m pretty sure the only instruction I gave him was a description of how I wanted the listener to feel when they heard the song. He ran with it and delivered exactly what I had in mind, without me having to explain or direct at all. He just gets it.

Interview with Gabe Valle

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: I primarily work on indie, pop, alternative, cinematic, singer-songwriter, folk, and film-inspired music. Most of my projects involve adding live strings and modern orchestral arrangements to contemporary productions, ranging from intimate acoustic records to large cinematic pop tracks.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: My strongest skill is creating modern string arrangements that feel emotional, organic, and fully connected to the song. I specialize in blending live violin, viola, cello, and layered orchestration into contemporary pop, indie, alternative, and cinematic productions in a way that enhances the record without sounding overly classical or disconnected from the production style.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: I bring emotion, depth, and texture to a song through live strings and modern arrangements. My work ranges from subtle violin layers and countermelodies to full cinematic string sections designed to elevate the emotion and impact of a record. Every part is written to support the song naturally while adding movement, energy, and a more organic feel to the production.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: My process usually starts with the client sending over their song, rough mix, and any references or ideas they have for the strings. From there, I create custom arrangements that fit the emotion and energy of the record, whether that’s subtle solo violin textures or full cinematic string sections. Once approved, I record and deliver clean, organized stems that are ready to drop directly into the session. I keep communication fast and collaborative throughout the process to make revisions and adjustments easy.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I work out of Big & Tall Recording just outside New York City, where I record live violin, viola, cello, and layered string arrangements in a professional treated studio environment. My setup is designed to capture warm, detailed, mix-ready strings for modern pop, indie, cinematic, and alternative productions. I primarily work in Avid Pro Tools.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: I’m heavily inspired by producers and arrangers who blend organic instrumentation with modern production in a really emotional way. Artists and composers like Jon Brion, Owen Pallett, Finneas O'Connell, Ludwig Göransson, Phoebe Bridgers, Sufjan Stevens, and Bon Iver have really shaped how I think about texture, space, and emotion in arrangements. I also love the cinematic string writing found in film scores and modern orchestral pop records where strings feel less “classical” and more like an emotional extension of the song itself.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I most commonly work with artists and producers who want live strings added to their songs to create a bigger emotional impact. This includes writing and recording custom violin, viola, cello, and full string arrangements for indie, pop, alternative, cinematic, singer-songwriter, and film-inspired music. Projects range from intimate solo violin layers and emotional countermelodies to full orchestral productions with stacked quartets and cinematic textures. I also frequently deliver clean stems for mixing engineers and help artists shape the overall emotional direction of a record through arrangement and production choices.
