Later, he graduated from the Superior Conservatory of Music in Málaga, obtaining degrees in Music Theory, Transposition, Accompaniment, and a Superior degree in Tuba.

Since 1990, he has been composing in various formats, publishing and premiering his music worldwide, writing for radio, television, film, and all kinds of performances. In 1999, he released his first album, “Deus Meus,” with the Miguel Pérez Consort, followed by many others, with a special focus on his favorite instrument, the piano.

Based in the Canary Islands since 2007, after more than thirty years dedicated to composition and personal musical performance, he now exclusively devotes his time to teaching as the Head of the Music Department at IES Santo Tomás de Aquino on the island of Fuerteventura. In his free time, he continues to compose music, which he shares with his followers on Spotify and other music platforms online.

Interview with Miguel Pérez

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Not yet, but I hope that changes soon.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I would say both. I believe that dismissing any resource means not taking full advantage of the wonderful creative moment we are living in.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: To move them deeply with my music.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: What I like the most is to be able to reach and touch people I don’t even know.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: They often wonder about my creative process and I always answer that it changes every time, it doesn’t always happen in the same way.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: Since the melodies and harmonies are easily understandable, it is very common to think that creating them must be easy and straight forward.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: I ask them about the music they need, the purpose of it, their musical preferences, etc. to find out if there is some common ground where we can meet.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Firstly, it's important that they have a clear vision of what they desire. Secondly, collaboration and a willingness to adjust the composition according to the client's preferences are fundamental. Thirdly, open and consistent communication throughout the process is essential. I would also encourage them to listen to my previous work to ensure it aligns with their needs. And finally, I guarantee professionalism and commitment in the creation of a unique and memorable composition.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: A MIDI piano, a computer and a router that allowed me to be connected to the world. Nothing else.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I began composing at the age of fourteen. Since then, I haven’t stopped doing it as well as my work as a teacher, finding the balance to do both.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: My music sneaks quietly into one’s heart, unintentionally but willingly.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Michael Nyman, without a doubt. His universe fascinates me, his Renaissance concept of art is unique in these times. Admirable.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Let it go and enjoy the music, open your senses and travel to the deepest part of yourself.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Lately, I’ve been writing a lot of piano music.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Creating and performing melodies and harmonies with an emotional depth.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: My music is my truth. That’s why I shy away from musical artifice and complications, and I strive for maximum transparency, even at the risk of sounding overly simple at times. I’ve always believed that less is more, which is why I have a special admiration for minimalist composers.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: When I feel inspiration running through my veins, I am overwhelmed by the need to rush to the piano, leave that energy imprinted on the piano keys and capture that vibrant moment. It’s similar to when a photographer captures a magical second of beauty or when a mother gives birth to her child.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I record at home with a MIDI piano, and the sound is later processed by my partner at “Bagatelas Music”, my friend José Antonio Delgado.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Among my favourite musicians are Arvo Pärt, Michael Nyman and Max Richter, but there are others with very diverse backgrounds. I love everything, from traditional sounds to the most avant-garde, with a special interest in minimalist music, jazz and film music.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: My most common type of work are pieces for solo piano with enveloping melodies and harmonies that encourage relaxation.

  41. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  42. A: I am very proud of my recent compositions that I share on Spotify because they are the best reflection of my music. I am both the composer and performer of them.

  43. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  44. A: I am currently working on my piano compositions that I release on Spotify, Amazon Music, etc. as well as a symphony called “Symphony nº 1 Opus Lily”.
