Interview with Mitch Rissler / Static Sounds

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: Easy going, flexible yet determined. I will work tirelessly to achieve an outstanding final sound.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: There are far too many to list here!

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both! Digital has come a LONG way, and there are some things that you can only do with a digital setup.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Being exposed to all of the great music that is out there, and playing an integral role in realising a musical vision.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Don't overthink it - if it sounds good it is good!

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Almost any form of extreme music, from death metal bands to noise artists and obscure electronic music.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Knowing that working with music is not always about the technical stuff, especially in heavy music. Sometimes grit and atmosphere takes precedence in certain styles of music, If all the emotion is lost or buried in a whirlwind of rules, the end result is sterile and meaningless.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: I like to understand where the artist is coming from, that usually takes place over a few conversations. Music is very personal. Once we're on the same page in terms of what sound and direction the music should take, then we can work together achieving an impactful and polished song, album or whatever the project may be.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Almost any band or artist who is innovative with their sound and song writing! Same goes for Engineers - listening to a song and realising 'wow I would never have thought to do that!' These moments keep pushing me along and striving for new and creative ways of conveying music.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Mastering and Mixing for metal bands.
