Phillip Beale is a native of Chicago Illinois. He attended Northern Illinois University where he majored in Percussion Performance/Jazz Studies under Professor Robert Chappell, Associate Dean Richard Holly, and Professor Ronald Carter.
Beale’s drum corps background began in 1997 marching snare with the division III corps Mirage from Champaign Illinois. He then spent two years marching snare with Pioneer. He was the section leader in 1999. In 2001 he was the featured drum set player with the Madison Scouts. Also that year, Beale competed in the solo and ensemble competition where he won best multiple percussion solo with a score of 99.3. As a result, Beale was featured in the January and August 2002 issues of Modern Drummer Magazine. Later that year, Phillip took part in the Guitar Center Drumoff where he competed against other Chicago drummers. He would go on to take first place at that store and advance to the regional finals.
