Interview with EdgarOnTheBeat

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I’m especially proud of was recording, mixing, and mastering Jon Secada with the FIU Big Band on the song ‘The Best is Yet to Come.’ It was an incredible experience bringing together Jon’s iconic vocals with the powerful, rich sound of a full big band. The combination of live recording and blending different musical layers was a rewarding challenge. The final product came out with the perfect balance of energy and emotion, and it was amazing to see such a legendary artist work with such a talented group of musicians.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment, I’m working on a few exciting projects! I’m composing and producing beats for some up-and-coming hip-hop artists, mixing and mastering a pop album for a local singer, and prepping playback tracks for an upcoming live show. I’m always juggling different styles and genres, which keeps the creative process fresh and inspiring.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not at the moment.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I’m a fan of both analog and digital, and I love blending the best of both worlds. Analog gear has that warmth and richness that’s hard to replicate digitally, especially in terms of tone and depth. But digital tools offer precision, flexibility, and ease, especially when it comes to mixing, editing, and mastering. I use both in my workflow, analog for certain tones and textures, and digital for accuracy and control. It’s all about using the right tool for the right job.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to my clients is simple: I will work tirelessly to bring your vision to life, delivering high-quality work, on time, with a collaborative, open approach. Whether it’s crafting the perfect piano part, creating a fresh beat, or polishing a mix to perfection, I’ll ensure your project sounds the way you’ve always imagined.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I love most about my job is helping artists bring their ideas to life. Whether it’s building a track from scratch, adding the right piano part, or polishing a mix until it sounds ready for the world, there’s nothing better than seeing someone’s creative vision fully realized and knowing I helped make that happen.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Clients often ask: ‘How long will it take?’ and ‘Can you match a certain sound or style?’ My answer is: I’m fast but focused on quality depending on the project, I typically deliver first versions within a few days. And yes, if you provide clear references or describe the vibe you’re aiming for, I’ll work to match (or even elevate) that sound while keeping your unique style at the center.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is that production, mixing, or even playing an instrument is just about pushing buttons or hitting keys. In reality, it’s about deeply understanding the music, the emotion, the story, the energy, and making hundreds of small, thoughtful choices that help the artist’s vision come to life.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask a few important things: What’s your vision for the song? Are there any reference tracks or artists you want the vibe to match? What’s your deadline? Do you need piano parts, beats, mixing/mastering, or a combination? The more details you can share upfront, the smoother and faster the process will be!

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be as clear as possible about your vision! Share reference tracks, notes, and anything that helps me understand the sound you’re aiming for. The more details you provide upfront, the better I can deliver exactly what you’re imagining or even something better.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: If I were stuck on a desert island, I’d take: 1) my MIDI keyboard, 2) a laptop loaded with my DAW and plugins, 3) a portable audio interface, 4) a solid pair of headphones, and 5) a solar charger to keep it all running! With that setup, I could compose, produce, mix, and stay creative anywhere.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started my career as a pianist, which gave me a strong musical foundation early on. Over time, I expanded into beat making, mixing, mastering, and live playback tech work to support artists both in the studio and on stage. I’ve been creating, recording, and engineering music professionally for over 15 years, and I love helping artists bring their vision to life at every stage of the process.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is emotional, clean, and versatile. Whether I’m laying down a soulful piano part, creating a hard-hitting beat, or polishing a final mix, I focus on bringing out the core feeling of the music. I blend live musicianship with modern production to create tracks that sound fresh, emotional, and radio-ready

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with Post Malone. His ability to blend genres, hip-hop, pop, rock, and even country, while keeping real emotion at the center of his music, is something I really connect with. As a pianist and producer, I love working on tracks that have both musical depth and wide audience appeal, and Post’s style would be an amazing match for that.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Use Reference Tracks for Mixing and Mastering. One of the most powerful ways to ensure your mix and master sound professional is to use a reference track, a song you admire with a similar vibe or genre to your project

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I mostly specialize in Pop, Afrobeat, Reggaeton, Jazz, and Rock.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is understanding the emotional core of a song and bringing it to life, whether through expressive piano, dynamic beats, or a polished final mix. I know how to support an artist’s vision while making the track sound professional, clean, and impactful

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring musicality, emotion, and professional polish to every song. Whether it’s a heartfelt piano performance, a custom beat that elevates the vibe, or a mix/master that makes everything shine, I focus on serving the song’s vision — not just showing off technique. My goal is to make sure the music connects with listeners and feels both powerful and authentic

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Once we discuss your project needs, I’ll ask for all relevant files (references, stems, ideas). I’ll create or record the first version and send you a rough draft for feedback. One free revision is included to fine-tune the performance, production, or mix. After approval and final payment, I’ll deliver polished, high-quality files ready for use

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I use Logic Pro X and Ableton Live.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Hans Zimmer, Timbaland, Pharrell, Finneas

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I mostly do beats, full productions, piano recordings, mixing, and mastering. I also tour as a music director, pianist, and playback tech
